CoverGirl LashBlast Mascaras: Review and Comparison

When I finally got my mitts on the CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion last week I decided it would be a good opportunity to do a little review of all the covergirl Mascaras currently in my possession (from top) The LashBlast Volume, Length and what is meant to be the best of both... the Fusion.

As you can see there is quite a lot of difference between the brushes. The Volume brush is very large and stubby which can make it quite hard to get right into the corners of your eyes to catch those baby lashes. The length brush is very long and skinny with tiny bristles which eliminates that problem, while defining the individual lashes well. The Fusion brush is very similar to the Volume, the bristles being a tiny bit longer, but still restricting the reach of smaller lashes.

All of the mascaras perform similarly in terms of flaking, smudging and removal: they are all great, lasting all day and being easily removed with eye make up remover or cleanser. The effects of the mascaras however, do differ. Here are the results of each:

LashBlast Volume:
I definitely notice more volume and length in my lashes. It hardly clumps at all, especially in comparison to other volumising mascaras. I have used this almost every day for the past month or so and absolutely love the results!

LashBlast Length:
The results of this mascara are much more natural and subtle. It does lengthen the lashes considerably, but no more than the volume formulation. In my opinion this mascara would be great for those looking for a natural look, for school or the office perhaps, but not my personal favourite.

LashBlast Fusion:
The latest release from the LashBlast line, the Fusion mascara is meant to be a combination of both the originals. In my opinion this mascara adds no more volume or length than the original LashBlast Volume. I found it is slightly harder to apply than the Volume or Length formulations, creating clumps and sticking lashes together much more frequently than either of the original formulations. Overall I can say I was slightly dissapointed with it's performance.

Although the Fusion Mascara alone is still a great product, I can't really see why it was created, as it doesn't seem to have much different results from the Volume formulation. Although it's still a great mascara, especially for a drugstore brand, I still prefer the Lashblast Volume overall.

For my USA Followers: These mascaras are widely available throughout the US (see theCoverGirl Website for more info) and are priced at $8.99, $8.99 and $9.99 respectively.

For my UK Followers: These Mascaras are sadly not available in the UK, If you are not from the US but are planning a trip there, or know someone who is, I would highly recommend picking up the LashBlast Volume.

For those of you in the UK who don't already know, Max Factor's False Lash Effect Mascara is a carbon copy of the LashBlast Volume mascara, only with a slightly larger price tag. You can pick up the Max Factor version for £10.99 at Boots and Superdrug stores nationwide.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these mascaras and the Mac Factor version... What do you think of the results? Have you tried any of them? Will you be trying any of them?

Hope you're all having a fabulous Monday!

Fleur xx

  4. I tried the LashBlast volume a looong time ago and absolutely LOVED it! I picked up the Fusion a week or so ago and I love it. I couldn't believe how much it doesn't flake! I always find myself sweeping away flakes of mascara that has fallen, but with this one there is NO FLAKING! I was shocked. haha I think I might stick to the fusion or the volume one for a long time :) I did try the lengthening one, and had the same thoughts as you, it didn't provide me with the thick look i like.
What else did your friend bring over for you!???

  5. I've only tried LashBlast Volume and Fusion. To me, they're both excellent mascaras especially for it's price. After trying these I have a hard time going back to paying for mascaras like DiorShow which I used for YEARS. The Volume and Fusion are extremely similar as you had mentioned, but on my lashes I noticed a bit more length with the Fusion. Lately I've been swearing by the Fushion mascara but when I run out I wont feel like I'm getting something worse by going back to my Volume one.

  6. I've tried the original LashBlast and the Lashblast Luxe. They're both super nice, especially the Luxe which has little sparkles in it! Great review Fleur xo

  7. You could try ebay if you live in the UK, or anywhere that CoverGirl isn't sold.
Or, if you have a military base near you and you know someone that can get you on base, most base exchanges sell CoverGirl.

  8. I was really dissapointed in LashBlast Fusion as well...I don't know if you have access to Maybeline products but The Falsies Mascara is absolutly amazing! :)

  10. There isn't a difference between Fusion and Volume. I think Covergirl just wanted to make more money and it's just a gimmick :(

  11. Since I live in the dull backwaters of Sweden there's no chance of me getting my hands on the CoverGirl mascaras. I've been using False Lash Effect (the waterproof version) on hot days, and it's superb. No smudging and the waterproof formula really keeps the lashes curled throughout the day.

  12. Hi, I know this nothing to do with your blog. Actually i'll answer i currently use maybeline false lash effect and its good but its quite difficult to apply because the brush is big and wide like you were saying, i'll use it however when it finishes i'll go back to my old one which is.... oh gosh i can't remember ;/ Its purple packaging, and its great for curls and not really length but i LOVE the brush. Anyway, im so sorry if you don't like this, im not trying to spam or whatever, just let me know if you want me to not do it. But i'm going to be starting a beauty guru youtube and blog for cheaper products because thats the stuff i use and can afford. So please anyone check out my blog so far and tell me what you think http://deeeee4.blogspot.com/ Thank you so much Deanna x

  14. This is so useful, I'm going to New York next month and definitely want a Lashblast mascara but didn't know which one, the Volume one sounds/ looks the best but stupidly I would probably have gone for one of the others because I prefer the colour of the packaging!

  15. I use LashBlast, but I'm debating about getting Waterproof Mascara. Does LashBlast have anything like that? Great review, by the way!

  21. Max Factor Falsh Lash effect in Brown/Black is my go-to mascara- I'd heard before that it was the same as the covergirl one before so I'm glad to hear it from you too (since I was interested in Lashblast volume).
    Lovely comparison
