My Teeth Whitening Mission!

I have always been interested in the idea of whitening my teeth, but have been put off by the sky high bills quoted for professional whitening, and if (like me!) you are based in the UK, you will no doubt be aware of the limited selection and effectiveness of whitening kits available on the high street.

While at a party last week, I bumped into a long lost friend who had newly dazzling white teeth and told me that it was all down to the fabled Crest White Strips. She'd managed to bag a box on eBay for around £30, but as a certain American (MissGlamorazzi aka Ingrid) was winging her way to these shores only two days after, I sent her a last minute request for a packet or two.

And she delivered!

For those of you in the US and for some of you in the UK who may have tried these already, I'm sure this post may be a little dull as they are very commonly used over there, but for anyone and everyone who might be interested, I will be trying these out for the next two weeks in order to do a full review of the experience. Keep your eyes peeled! (But be warned... unflattering teeth close-ups may be on their way!)

For those who have already tried these, I'd love to hear about your experiences with them!

  1. I finished my 14 day pack two days ago. Lordy lord do I love these... They definitely whitened my teeth 4 or 5 shades (mind you they are not pearly white...maybe next time I go through a pack but they do recommend only going through 2 packs a year). The ONLY down side I found, was that it made some of my teeth EXTRA sensitive. But I'll make the sacrifice :D

  3. I worked at a summer camp in America this year and I think all of the British staff raided the local Walmart for these bad boys! I have porcelain veneers on my front two teeth so couldn't use them myself - veneers don't whiten. But everyone at camp who did use them had one MAJOR complaint - SENSITIVITY!! Apart from that, their teeth with pearly white xxx

  4. Oh, I always want to try these. My mom's heading back to the states in two weeks, I will definitely put these on my list. I have also heard about the sensitivity though. I use the PlusWhite gel right now and it works really well, with no sensitivity, but I still really wanna try the crest strips!

  10. They definately work- I swear by them. Here's a little tip- instead of wearing one set for 30 mins and then putting another pack on for 30 mins, leave one set on for an hour- makes them last a bit longer xxx

  11. it sort of scrapes the calcium in your teeth, thus shedding the layers making it whiter and which is the reason for the increase in ur teeth sensitivity. i went to the doctor for consultation, to get my teeth whiten and he was actually really honest and told me bout everything inc. using all these stuff. but..i guess der r a lot of opinions out der.x

  15. They definitely do work, but be warned that you'll have moments of major pain from the tooth sensitivity. For me, the pain only lasted 30 seconds or so at a time, but boy did it hurt. I'm a little scared to do it again, but everyone's teeth are different! Maybe try using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth while you're using these.

  18. I used it and it lasted only for a little while, plus it made my teeth sensitive and caused some decalcifications which are like weaker soft spots caused by the chemicals in the whitening product...now I have to use fluoride every night forever. I've been on the fluoride for 3 years now, it does not taste that good...

  19. They are great, I used them for my wedding 4 years ago and they whitened my teeth a shade lighter. They are quite strong so I would suggest if you have weaker teeth, do not try.

  23. I think that the white strips are pretty awesome and they deliver on the whitening. (my dentist even commented on how white my teeth were, lol). I've used them several times over the years and have only had minor issues with sensitivity. Good luck with these--I think you'll like the result :)

  26. These arent available in the UK because they contain higher than the legal limit of Hydrogen Peroxide as approved by the UK health boards etc. Tooth sensitivity occurs when tiny holes in the enamel are created which lead to the nerve inside the tooth, therefor when you drink cold drinks for example they go into the microscopic holes in the enamel, hit the nerve and BAM - paaiiin.

I used to try all kinds of whitening products a few years ago as although my teeth were ok, i wanted that hollywood bright white smile. I now wish i hadnt as im left with VERY sensitive teeth, and visible enamel damage. I dont want to seem like a Mum here, but PLEASE think twice about using products like these - you only have one set of teeth! false ones arent the same! hehe.

    Hope this helps x x

  27. Hey Fleur,

I've used a few packets of these over the years with fantastic results. The downside is they taste vile but just keep your lips well out the way when applying and you shouldn't have to taste too much! I had a bit of sensitivity that faded a couple of days after finishing each packet but my friend who also swears by them had no pain at all, guess it is different for everyone.

    Enjoy! x

  30. You are going to love the results! I get complements all the time that I have pretty teeth! Not only do I keep my smile white with these strips but I also had the dentist use bonding to shape them which is much less expensive than Veneers and it doesn't destroy your real teeth. Also, there are different versions of the Crest White Strips and I have tried them all and found the 3d Advanced Seal to work much better than the others! I just put mine on after showering and once my makeup and hair is done it's time to remove them... be sure to brush your teeth after and not before though. Oh, and I used Sensodyne Toothpaste to get rid of the sensitivity caused by the strips! Good Luck from the US!!

  31. these work soooo welll! i had naturally yellow teeth my whole life, but professional whitening is too pricey, and after trying some sort of gel, i was beginning to accept the idea that id never have pearly white teeth. But that changeddd when i found these! they work SO WELL, and now compliments me on how white my teeth are! love them love them love them! my teeth were a little sensitive when i finished the pack but it went away, and i finished the pack in june and it is now january and my teeth are still white!

  32. Yes! I'm superr excited for this review. I've been wanting to get them but um.. they're sort of pricey. I didn't want to get them and have them not work but lord knows my teeth need to be whitened, lmao. Thanks!

  35. Hi i'm a new follower :) - i've never really liked the sound of these but maybe i just don't get the idea - like, strips on your teeth? Weird. Anyways, if they work out i might invest and have a go for myself.
I've been using PlusWhite for Sensitive Teeth for about a year which i have to order from the US which is a bit of a pain...it works pretty well though, i would recommend. Also, it's not that expensive, even with shipping :)

  38. Hey Fleur, Ive used them several times and the results have always been fab! You need normally to whiten once a year to keep up the results. I also find, that they do make your teeth and gums a bit sensitive while you are working your way through the pack, I persevered and found that this subsided very quickly once the pack was done. :) xx

  39. I bought a box back in May and I still have some packs left :P I used them for awhile every day but would always experience sensitivity afterwards. Sometimes it would even wake me up at night. So when I started to notice an increase in the whiteness of my teeth I stopped using them so frequently...now January and I still have about 3 or 4 packs left. The sensitivity does go away but it still comes up at random times; I never experienced sensitivity before using them. Like if I drink super cold water, or even eat a donut (weird I know!) my teeth get so sensitive.
It's not that big of an issue and I'm sure you've heard about the sensitivity thing from other people, but I just thought I'd share my opinion. They did work for me and I will probably use them once I notice my teeth getting less-white; the sensitivity thing sucks a little though.

    ReplyDelete
  40. They work very well, but make sure to follow the instructions. It is when you don't follow the instruction you can get sensitivity from your Crest Whitestrips. If you didn't use them yet you should try the new Crest 2 Hour Express Whitestrips.

  42. Dentists also recommend home whitening for the hygienic benefits that come from whitening your teeth. Polishing and scrubbing your teeth daily with the whitening applicator helps to break up plaque and can ultimately lead to healthier teeth along with a brighter smile!
