Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum: Does it Live up to the Hype?

There has undoubtedly been a buzz of excitement surrounding the long-awaited perfume debut from Jimmy Choo (apparently it's been in the pipe line for about four years!) I for one, was really quite curious as to what direction they would go in with their first scent, especially as the fragrance was created by the same perfumer who created Viktor and Rolf's Flowerbomb (which I love!).

My first impression is that the bottle is hefty and looks very similar to Victor & Rolf's Flowerbomb (i.e. it looks like a grenade). It is a well made, sophisticated and would be a welcome addition to many a dressing table, I'm sure. When I initially sprayed the fragrance itself, I have to say I got a real shock. What I was expecting to be a very mature, sophisticated fragrance was in fact incredibly sweet!
When I first sprayed the perfume, my initial shock was mistaken for instant dislike. It's very harsh when first applied, but when left to develop it becomes a much softer and creamier fragrance which is quite pleasant.

I actually found it hard to put my finger on, but something about this fragrance smells sweet, but not fruity. Normally I go for sweet, fruity fragrances and while Jimmy Choo's signature scent is most certainly sweet, it seems to be more sugary than fruity.

When I got home and looked up the description and fragrance notes, I discovered that this was most probably the 'Sweet Toffee'.

All in all I have to say I was mildly disspaointed with Tamara Mellon's debut into the world of fragrance (although her modelling for the advert was pretty impressive... and raunchy!). I do like the scent, and it has fabulous staying power (four hours later it is still as powerful as when it was applied) but I honestly don't think I would buy it myself. Don't get me wrong, if someone gave it to me I would certainly use it but I definitely remain on the fence with this one.

I'd love to hear what you all think of this fragrance... Has anyone treated themselves to a bottle?

It is available from £33.15 including international delivery from feelunique.com

  2. It has toffee in it, which is where I think the 'sweetness' comes from. Gonna have a sniff tomorrow and decide for myself if I like it. Hopefully I will, if not then my beloved Hugo Boss Deep Red won't let me down!

  8. I bought this at the weekend and just reviewed it on my blog. I personally love it; sweet but not overly sweet like the tacky Britney Spears perfumes or whatever. Think Jimmy Choo are on to a winner x

  11. I have tried this perfume and I like it. I would not say it is something extraordinary (smell seemed quite familiar to me) but it is mild and feminine. In my opinion it is more sophisticated than Britney Spears or Juicy Couture perfumes. I am thinking of buying it.

  12. I'm quite disappointed, to be honest! I don't think that the perfume is anything close to original -the bottle-the smell-the campaign.
I really hope that they'll come out with a better one!

I just recently started blogging and I would really appreciate you guys checking ou my blog :)

  13. I managed to get a sample of this from Selfridges and have to say i didn't really like the fragrance. I suppose I was expecting great things but to me the bottle is too similar to flowerbomb and the fragrance inself is nothing new. I have only used the sample once and to be honest that was enough. i won't be buying the full size bottle.

  20. I happened to go to Selfridges a week before it came out in other shops. As I walked past the tester area, a staff member handed me a piece of card with it on so I had to buy it. I love it, by far my favourite perfume at the moment <3!
