I was kindly invited along to view a demonstration by top MAC make up artists Neil Young and Lynsey Alexander creating their favourite red carpet looks for the upcoming Philips British Academy Television Awards 2011. I thought I'd take to my blog to share just a few of their top tips for looking immaculate on the red carpet, or in the case of us mere mortals... when you're being photographed!
Neil's red carpet look focused on the lips, using my personal favourite MAC lipstick, Show Orchid. His top tips for using bold, statement colour were:
- Skip lip liner for a more modern bright lip
- "If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got" - Be brave with colour to change your look and avoid getting stuck in a makeup rut.
- Take a moment to look at yourself each morning. Some days certain features stand out, let that dictate what you want to accentuate that day.
Lynsey's look focused on the eyes, creating a unique take on the classic smokey eye. Her top tips for red carpet glamour were:
- Take an antihistamine tablet before an event if you are very nervous and prone to blushing. This will stop you looking red-faced in the photographs (also a great one for nervous brides-to-be!)
- Don't stick to the standard, old fashioned make up rules (i.e. Five eyeshadow colours) but adapt them to the look you are creating, and to your individual features.
- Don't forget to take your foundation over your ears if your hair is up to avoid them mismatching!
I absolutely loved both of the finished looks and picked up some great tips for the next time I'm in front of the camera.
What do you think girls? Which look would you chose to walk the red carpet?
i'd love to know how they did the brown eye make up :) x
ReplyDeleteI love both looks, but I've always love dramatic eyes. Even with huge pop of color on the lips, the eyes always captivates me, no matter if it's subtle look or dramatic or even crazy.
ReplyDeleteThe right one... Hahaha, I'm feeling like these guys from "The social network"! :D
ReplyDeleteI love Neil's look, the Show Orchid looks beautiful, love a bold lip for a night out.
ReplyDeleteVery lucky that you were invited for a sneek peek, I hope u had a fab day :)

Makeup tips for fair skin:
ReplyDelete* Really fair skin tends to have very fine, invisible pores, can be translucent, and a tendency to be dry; with a little extra help and some spot conceal (hide dark circles, blemishes and other imperfections), blended with brush, you will have a flawless finish. Building the foundation up in layers will give the appearance of a softer, more natural looking makeup.
A good base is all about the skin – aim to improve the color and texture of your skin rather than applying a thick base for a flat allover effect. Fair skins can be washed out with too much light. Apply a not-too-pink cream blush to the apples of your cheeks, to add color.

ReplyDeleteI love the looks. I love the smokey eye on the second girl, gorgeous colours! Which is why I always spend so much at MAC, too much choice of eyeshadows!

I love MAC lipstick and so the bright lips is an absolute win for me. They are bold and daring, yet glamorous at the same time. Love it.

ReplyDeleteif only i wish Mac counter employees were as talented as MAC make up artists. In state I live there is a Mac counter in Macy's and all MAC employees there have hideous make up on their faces! I am scared to go shop there I prefer to order online when they have free shipping promotions. No kidding!
ReplyDeleteNice Makeup Tips.
