The Press-On Manicure

I've steered clear of DIY fake nails since a set destroyed my natural nails a few summers ago. As much as I love the way they look, they are just too much hassle to remove, and to be honest, my natural nails are OK anyway so I'm not in desperate need of wearing false ones.

I was a little intrigued by the new Impress press-on manicure line though. They've had quite a lot of attention since their launch, especially since they've got Nicole Scherzinger on board for their advertising campaign.
These nails are much thinner and not necessarily longer than your natural nail (I ended up filing them down slightly to match my natural nail length perfectly). They take just a few minutes to apply and there's no waiting around for them to dry. The main selling-point for me was that there is no nail glue involved, they have adhesive already applied to the back of the nail so you just pop them on.
I was a little sceptical about this method, as I've tried something like this way back when I was about 12 and the first one fell off after just a few hours, but I thought that they must have improved them since then so decided to give them a whirl...
I totally fell in love with this pattern 'Lovestruck', despite being a little uncertain about whether or not it was a little tacky for my taste, I decided to go for it and give them a try!
After application I have to say I quite like them. I'm not 100% sure I would wear them regularly. To me they do look a little too fake, but if you're looking for a cute, fun pattern for summer time, I really like the set I chose.

I'd estimate max wear time for these would be about a week, with a few replacements here and there. I decided to take mine off after 4 1/2 days. Surprisingly, not one fell off of it's own accord. Even if it did, they give you lots of spares so if you lose one you can simply pop another on!

When it came to taking them off (the part I was dreading!) they were actually a dream to remove. I didn't even have to soak them in nail polish for a few seconds as the packet suggested. I simply peeled them off. They didn't appear to leave my natural nails damaged in the slightest (especially when compare to glue-on falsies!)

They aren't cheap at £7.99 for the plain designs and £8.99 for the patterns, but they are certainly fun for a holiday treat, or if you are short on time. I will definitely be trying these again. You can pick them up in Boots, or online here.

What do you think? Have any of you tried these press-on nails?

  1. I've seen these in Boots for a while and have always wanted to try them out, may purchase some next time I take a trip there. Love that they were thinner than usual fake nails and that they're easy to remove. Great post Fleur! x

  3. These sound really good. I too was a little skeptical after seeing them advertised, because I remember the ones which were around in the 90's when I was a kid that always fell off, almost instantly! It's good to hear that these have some lasting power! I really like the design, good choice :) xo

  6. Oh wow, these look amazing! The pattern looks so nice and summery and from the pics- they don't look false at all!

They wouldn't be something I'd normally pick up, but after seeing yours, I may have to consider!

  7. I love the pattern, the colours are so summery! I'm not a huge fan of fake nails, I'm sure a printed nail wrap would give a similar effect though :)

  16. These are such a good alternative to false nails. I also used to get acrylics but they completely wrecked my nails. If these cause no damage at all I think I might be tempted, especially for the summer! :) xx

  17. I think they're awful. I applied mine and in the course of washing up and washing my hair most flicked off and the remaining that were left, that design started to peal off.

  18. I bought a few of these sets at my work's sample sale for mega cheap. I think they're great to pop on for the odd event but for me, the shape didn't fit flush to my nail, so it started gathering dirt beneath the stuck on nail and mine, like falsies do, and they felt a bit icky. Easy to take off though, I agree.

  21. I see what you mean about the pattern going either way but I think these look cute and fun for summer. After having a useless experience with most DIY nail wraps, I might give these a go as they seem slightly thicker.

  25. I gave these a try when they first came out and I didn't have any luck with them at all, mine fell off on their own within an hour. I also found my own nails were longer then the fake ones and I don't even have long nails, personally if I'm going to wear false nails I would like them to be longer then my own nails are but these are good for those who like short nails, I guess. Maybe I just did something wrong and they're not as bad as I have made them out to be, especially seeing they worked for you, did you do anything special well applying them? That design is quite cute though, but I think I'd rather just get acrylic nails then try these again, they were too child like and cheap in my opinion to be advertised for adults.

  30. I really liked some of the patterns for these but unfortunately I found that they are too short for my nails. For almost the same price, I think nail strips are a better bet for me if I want patterns.

  31. I tried them around Christmas time this past year, and they did last a whole week for me, which was awesome! And the removal for me was the same, no pain, no harm done.

  64. I tried these in the regular french tip version. I really hated them. They really did look too fake and some of them didn't adhere to my nail at the very tip of it. There was a separation there. I literally took them off after a day :/
