Fragrance Friday: Molecule 01

Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules is one of those ‘cult’ beauty blogger items. There is so much talk about this online, whether it’s love or hate. I decided to see what all the fuss was about and get myself a bottle, mainly thanks to the encouragement of my friend Gemma.

If you haven’t heard about Molecule 01 before, here’s a little background info…

It’s formulated using just one molecule, called Iso E Super. It’s a smooth, woody scent, which perfumers often include to add ‘fullness’ or strength to a fragrance. Molecule 01 was created back in 2005 by perfumer Geza Schoen with the concept of enhancing natural scent. It’s been likened to the effect of natural pheromones, making you more attractive to the opposite sex. It smells different on everyone, and is often undetectable to those wearing it, therefore giving everyone the opportunity to have their own unique ‘signature scent’.

A nice idea, but does it actually do what it claims?

On first spray it smells like vodka, then a tiny bit sour, almost like pee (never something I thought I would say in a perfume review!) but no where near as repulsive. Then it seems to disappear in to the skin, becoming almost undetectable to my own nose (to me it just smells clean and fresh, like newly washed laundry) but apparently very appealing to others. I’ve had numerous complements when I’ve worn this recently.

So it does work… at least in part. I’m not sure about the whole ‘attracting the opposite sex’ thing… my fiancé isn’t overly taken with the scent and most of the people who have commented on it have been female.

Either way, I personally really like this perfume (you can tell by the amount I’ve used up in a few short weeks) So there you are. Another much-talked-about product that well and truly lives up to the hype.

You can buy Molecule 01 online from Cult Beauty HERE. It is also available in Liberty’s and Harvey Nichols.
