Review: Redken All Soft

I've been using the Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner for about a month now. I'd seen quite a few rave reviews online, so when I was looking for a new shampoo and conditioner last month, I thought I would give these a whirl.

They are designed for dry and brittle hair, so I thought they would be perfect for my long, colour treated locks that break when using even the most gentlest hairbrush.
The line is formulated with an 'Interlock Protien Network' (oooh, technical!) that apparently helps to rebuild the hair surface protection and strengthens the core. They also contains argan oil for extra softness.

After trying these for the first time, I was surprisingly unimpressed. Although they smell lovely and fruity, and were pleasant to use, they left my hair feeling overloaded and weighed down once it was dry. Not something I'm used to, as normally my hair drinks up anything I treat it with.

I did a little research online to see if I was alone in feeling this, only to find that they have fairly recently changed the formula of this range, leaving many a disgruntled customer. I haven't tried the original, but I have to say that this left a lot to be desired, especially when you consider that each bottle with set you back around £12.
However, I'm not one to waste my hair products and while I must admit that using these together left my hair feeling very weighed down, I did find that using just the conditioner with another shampoo and vice versa made these products use-able. I'll finish these up, but I won't be repurchasing.

All in all, I was really disappointed by these.

I'd love to know your thoughts if anyone has tried these in the past?

  4. I love Redken. I've tried Kerastase and sometimes I like it too, but Redken is my favorite and makes my hair super soft haha :) I haven't tried this kind, but I can't wait!

  6. Oh what a shame!

At least you will get to use them up (even if it is when being paired with other shampoo / conditioners)

  9. I totally agree! I've only tried the shampoo though. My hopes were that it would soften my dry winter hair, but I think it works just the same as a $3 Pantene shampoo! Disappointed. You should check out Fekkai's shea butter moisturizing line. It's expensive but definitely delivers on the promise of softer hair.

  10. Such a shame! Redken are normally such a fab brand and I've heard so many good things about this range.

  11. I've tried the original about one or two years ago and I made the same experience - flat and kind of greasy looking weighted down hair despite the fact that I washed twice to get rid of the excess product because I thought I had just used to much. No matter how small the amount it always turned out like this.

The Redken Extreme and the Budy Full Series are great but the rest of the product range can be skipped without wasting another thought on it.

  12. I love how honest your reviews are. I always read all of them even if I'm not particularly interested in the product because I know I can count on your opinion!

I've got a $100 Asos Giveaway going on. It would be great if you would join :D.

  15. I think maybe it depends on your hair, I find the Redken All Soft range makes my hair incredibly soft and it's my go-to shampoo/conditioner when my hair feels really brittle.

  16. I used Redken often in the past but haven't purchased them recently- like you mentioned, they aren't cheap. I loved the All Soft line. It's unfortunate they changed the formula! :(
(FYI- I have long, thick, rebellious curly hair)

  24. That's such a shame. However, I've been avoiding products with protein in at the moment, because if your hair is quite course like mine, protein is meant to be bad for it, something to do with disrupting the balance between the keratin and moisture in your hair... I'm no scientist and don't really understand, but since switching to protein free products my hair has been a lot softer and bouncier.

  25. Really appreciate your honesty here.. I haven't tried this exact range, but a different one from Redken and I was similarly disappointed. No great results and filled with not great ingredients. Skip it.

  26. I have tried it and did not like it as well. I usually use Pureology products and are much more pleased with those. You should definitely check them out! The are great and you can buy them at feelunique :)

  27. I was really considering using these after hearing Vivianna loves them! Hmmm it's made me think twice. Have you tried any other Redkens others products though? I've loved the ones I've tried so far! x

  35. Thanks for your honesty, Fleur. I definitely won't be purchasing these, as nice as the bottle makes them sound!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah I know you're feeling. I also purchased them almost a year ago, during my first time of discovering the wonders of feelunique :p But honestly I was really disappointed, it didn't do anything to my hair, it almost felt like it didn't "get in". But like you I don't like to waste so I tried to sneak my sis to use (so I could justified myself to get another shampoo) but she didn't like it either.
Shame though it's expensive. I was so mad that to this day I haven't tried any of redken's products. I rather use from TIGI, Osmo or even Pantene really!
Better luck next time Fleur ;)

  38. Love how honest you've been here, good to have a heads up because I was just about to order these!!! Such a shame they changed the formula because I tried a friends one ages ago and it was fantastic, don't change things that aren't broken! Great review though Fleur, uber helpful! :)

  43. I am so glad you reviewed because have been using the Redken All Soft Argan-6 Oil for awhile now, but only sparingly and concentrating on my ends. I've tried Aveda, but their products are not conditioning enough for my dry hair. I think I am going to stick with Pureology for now, as I am very sensitive to sulfates, it smells great, and it leaves my hair well conditioned without build-up It's just incredibly expensive!

  44. All soft is intense moisture. I don't recommend it to anyone with finer textured hair. You should try clear moisture or blonde glam!

I always go for Bed Head shampoos and conditioners, they're all pretty lightweight so don't weigh your hair down.

  47. I don't think Redken is worth the money in general. For some time I used the Smooth Down Range, because of my naturally dry and brittle hair. First off it worked great, but the longer I used it, the more my hair started to become weighed down and went from dry to even drier. :-/ No Redken for me, anymore...

  48. I recently bought this shampoo and conditioner and I was also unimpressed. Whilst it wasn't necessarily bad, it wasn't great either (which is what I'd expect it to be at that price!). Glad I'm not the only one who wasn't raving about it!

  55. I love this shampoo and conditioner! My hair is super puffy and dry, and it really helps to clean my hair without making it frizzy and make it soft. Although, I didn't know they reformulated it...I have to original and mine is about to run out...dang it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I brought these just before christmas and wasn't impressed either, my hair is already soft but i do dye it blonde so i wanted it too look more bouncy with more life but i found it made my hair dryer and the conditioner wasn't very moisturising when applied.

  59. Hi you said your hair breaks easily. I am studying hairdressing at college. Do you use bleach on your hair ? coz this might be causing the breakage.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Exactly ! I tried the REDKEN COLOR EXTEND SHAMPOO an CONDITIONER and I was unimpressed as well. Luckily these were samples from a Goddiebox here in Denmark, so it wasn't like i have wasted money. But I def. don't think that these were worth the hype. I really felt nothing good when using them so it's a no go for me !
