L'Oreal GlamShine Stain Splash Review (YSL Glossy Stain Dupes!)

I finally managed to get my hands on these new lip stains from L'Oreal. They have been hailed as dupes for my beloved YSL Glossy Stains, and I've been keeping a beady eye out for their arrival in the UK, as apparently they've been out in Europe for quite some time.
They've finally landed on UK shores and I picked up three of the shades in Superdrug last week (They are currently 3 for 2!)
So first of all... The packaging. I love it. It's actually much nicer than the YSL packaging in my opinion, and looks much more expensive than their £7.99 price tag.
The formulation of the products is almost identical to the YSL. It feels like a cooling creme on application, but after layering, it leaves a super thick, glossy finish that stays put for hours, even after eating. The only differences in the formulation that I noticed were the scent (the L'Oreal version has quite an artificial berry scent which isn't as nice as the YSL) and the number of coats needed to achieve opacity on the lips (with the YSL it takes 3, with L'Oreal it's 4-5.)
The only real downside to these is the shade range. Out of the shades available, these were by far the best, sitting amongst a few terracotta shades and some dodgy lilacs. From having a peruse online, it seems that there are a couple of magenta/pink shades that seemed to be missing from the display in my local Superdrug (There weren't even spaces for them, so I wonder if they stock different shades in different shops?) Either way, the shades I chose were the most wearable amongst the selection I saw.
Lolita
Romy
Juliet
As with the YSL, these do change in colour as they dry on to your lips, so it's worth layering them up on your hand in the shop to see the true colours before you buy. Juliet is the perfect example of this, as it looks really pink in the tube but is quite a true red on the lips.

Here are a couple of images of the YSL, to remind you of the packaging and finish.

YSL Glossy Stain in 14 Fuchsia Dore
Overall, these didn't disappoint, and while they are currently 3 for 2 it brings the price down to just over £5 each... almost 1/5 of the price of the YSL. Love them. You can pick them up in Boots & Superdrug in the UK now (RRP £7.99)

Have any of you tried these new lip glosses, or the YSL ones? What do you think?

  8. They look amazing! The packaging and the colours too especially the last one you're wearing is so so pretty on you. I'm still into the Rimmel Apocalips phase so I don't know if these will steal my heart. They're also a little bit too shiny for me, I prefer a matte effect :) but other than that they look really amazing!

    Great post!

    1. Oh and I noticed that the packaging says "Caresse", so does it mean that it'll nourish your lips? :) Because I have one of the Caresse lipsticks and it's wonderful.

    2. They definitely aren't hydrating like the Tarte balm stains, in fact they tend to be a little drying for me. I wouldn't suggest wearing them every day, at least not without a hydrating lip balm in between applications.

And for £7.99 you cant go wrong really! I'm excited to try these now

  11. Finally! I've been wanting a YSL Glossystain since you first spoke about them in your Youtube vids but thought I'd hold out for an affordable dupe. Here's hoping they're 3 for 2 sometime soon so I can stock up on colours :)

    1. Are the names of the actual shades different in Canada, I live in the US and I think I have some of the shades she mentioned but the names are totally different. The only name that comes to mind is "Pink Resistance".

    2. I've got 184 Rose on and on that I bought in Canada and it looks very much like the palest of her 2 pinks in the tube. I think they sting a little bit after the application but I like the staying power.

  28. I haven't tried the YSL Glossy Stains (the price tag has always deterred me); however, I own and adore two of these L'Oreal Shine Stains. They have become my all-time favorite lip products because they look gorgeous and are so comfortable to wear. I do agree though they the shade range needs definite improving! There were only 3-4 shades out of the whole range that I really wanted to purchase. I hope they release more shades in the future and I'm glad to hear from someone who has tried both the YSL and L'Oreal versions that they are indeed very similar as that helps curb my desire to pick up the YSL version.

    Thanks for the great review!

  34. I just recently bought one of theses, and bright lipstick type products are usually my thing. However, I loved this products and the color. The names in Canada (not sure about the USA) are different than yours I believe, as none of the name you just wrote about sound familiar. But they are gorgeous. I might go back and buy a more "everyday" color. I currently own the color "infinite fuchsia" and Its great!

  85. Heej Fleur,
First I've got to say I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! They really make me wanna try out a lot of different styles ;)
But I've got a question for you. I've bought these lip stains last week (I bought the color Romy) and even though I like the color, it dries my lips really badly. They really hurt and I need several coats of lip balm to make them hydrated again. Is this normal for this product or did I bought a bad one or maybe they just aren't for me ;)
    Please let me know!

    xoxo Hanne
