Cult Beauty Re-Discoveries!

*Sponsored Post
When Max Factor got in touch to ask me to review their age-old classic 2000 Calorie Mascara, it got me thinking about some of the other cult-classic products I’ve used, loved and maybe forgotten over the years.
Some of these are YouTube classics, from back in the day when I first started making videos and everyone was raving about them… others are proper cult classics that have been on the market for decades. This week I took a selection of what I consider to be beauty classics that I’ve long since finished, or that have been collecting dust in the back of my drawer.

So first up for the 2000 Calorie…
I’m such a huge fan of Max Factor mascaras (every time a new one is released I rush to try it to find out if it could possibly be better than the last!) I think this one often gets forgotten as the others seem to shout a little louder with their bigger, brighter packaging and catchy names. Despite being an older, more understated option, this sits as a staple classic in my eyes. The thick formula of the mascara itself adds tonnes of volume whilst the big, bristled brush separates the lashes just the right amount so you get a natural, sexy, textured look. It also layers really nicely so is perfect worn in the daytime or layered up for a dramatic evening look. As with all Max Factor formulas, it doesn’t smudge on me either which is great. If you’ve never tried this before, you need to give it a go - It’s definitely solidified a spot back in my staple makeup collection! It’s £7.99 and available online here or in Boots, Superdrug and most supermarkets!
Next up for the holy grail of bronzers from my early days on YouTube… Chanel’s Soleil Tan De Chanel! This cream formula caused quite the stir online a few years back. If you don’t remember it, it’s quite a solid formula and best applied with a foundation brush (either a traditional paint-brush style or a stippling brush both work a treat) It’s a matte formula with no shimmer, but the cream texture means it leaves you with a very natural-looking bronzed glow which is simply divine. I had forgotten quite how lovely this smells and I have to say I’ve totally fallen for it all over again. It’s such a gorgeous base, especially for the summer. I do remember using this to contour way back when, but revisiting it makes me realise it’s a little to orange toned for that and I would recommend this more as a traditional bronzer. With the influx of contouring products on the market over the past five years, I think there are much better options out there now when it comes to contouring. It’s £32 for 30g and available from Chanel counters (although it’s not always clearly displayed - you may have to ask for it!) and online here.
Another product I was utterly obsessed with a few years ago was Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturiser. Long before the days when BB creams dominated the market for light coverage bases, Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturiser was the holy grail. It’s creamy but non-greasy and has a nice light coverage and an added bonus of SPF 20. It’s definitely less coverage than I usually go for now but has a really nice glowy finish. I used to love this for summer holidays, usually buying it a shade darker for an added bit of tan in the summer as the coverage is so light. Now it’s more of an off-duty product for me. I’ve been loving it for days when I’m working from home or running errands and want to look nice but don’t have the time to a reason to apply a full face of makeup. It’s £34 for 50ml, available on Laura Mercier counters or online here.
Next up is Clarins’ cult Beauty Flash Balm. A true grandma-approved classic, I owned this when I was 16 and simply adored it… back in the days before I owned a single high coverage foundation! I loved this to add a little a glow to my skin without actually wearing any makeup. Nowadays I have been using it as a primer underneath my foundation to add a little moisture, smooth out the surface of my skin and add a little glow. The texture is lovely and balmy (as the name would suggest!) and it’s perfect for those of you who want to look a little brighter without the need for foundation. It’s £29 for 50ml, available from Clarins counters or online here.
Last but not least, a newer addition to the market, but one that quickly accrued it’s ‘cult’ status… the original Moroccan Oil was huge a few years back when it first launched. Since then the brand has expanded into wet haircare products, styling and bath & body treats, but the original oil is still the core staple of the range. I used to use this on a daily basis but over time have moved on to different oils and treatments. Going back to this over the past few weeks has made me realise how great it is. It’s definitely one of my all-time favourite oils and I love it for use on wet hair as a leave-in conditioner and de-tangler, but also love as a serum on dry hair. A couple of hair oils have really impressed me over the years, but I have to say I think this one is probably my all time favourite! It’s definitely worked it’s way back into my daily routine and I’m very happy about that! It’s £31.85 for 100ml, available in Salons and online here.

I hope you guys have enjoyed taking this little trip down beauty-memory lane with me! Do you use any of the products I’ve mentioned? What’s been your favourite beauty re-discovery recently?

  5. Loved this post! I really want to try a cream bronzer but I'm so bad at blending in cream products I just feel like it would go so wrong! Do you know any drugstore alternatives to try before splurging on the chanel one?

  36. hackerethique saved my life, I was in a custody battle situation with my two year old daughter and my alcoholic ex-husband. He continued to defy safety restrictions and court orders, and I was never able to catch him in the act. I was referred to hackerethique@gmail.com during my desperate need of evidence. He totally understood my situation and guided me every step of the way to put a tracker on my ex-husband's phone where I could track him from his phone, see his text messages, social networks and even deleted messages and know exactly what he was up to directly from my phone. Tell him from steph and he might help, he can hack anything

  38. I love the chanel bronzer! I learned a trick from Lisa Eldridge-take a kabuki brush, run it around in the cream bronzer, wipe off extra on the back of your hand and then apply to your face. This leaves just the right amount left on the brush so you don't apply to much and you can build up the color.
