How To Pick Your Perfect Summer Scent

*Sponsored Post
Fragrance holds an incredible power when it comes to invoking memories and emotions, and some of my favourite memories associated with scent are from my summer holidays. Whether it’s linked to a certain sun cream, the scent of your favourite food or a specific perfume, smell can instantly take you back in time.

Lacoste got in touch recently and asked if I had any ideas to collaborate for the launch of their new fragrance collection ‘Eau De Lacoste L.12.12 Pour Elle’. Seeing as it’s the height of summer and the fragrances themselves are all perfect summer scents, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to talk about choosing the perfect summer scent for you.
I find shopping for perfumes so much fun, but it can also be a little overwhelming as the choice is vast. Picking the right scent that you’ll forever associate with a great time in your life is even more important than choosing an everyday scent, as you want to really love it and hopefully come back to it year after year.

Choosing the mood of your fragrance
It’s obvious that different fragrances invoke different feelings, and therefore suit different occasions. Consider what type of mood you want your summer scent to encourage. Whether it’s sparkling and fun, elegant and sophisticated or natural and relaxed, there’s a scent out there that will fit the bill.

Perfect summertime notes
Although we all have different taste when it comes to fragrance notes, certain notes are simply made for summer. There are the obvious ones like coconut, watermelon and verbena but notes I also love for summertime include mandarin (sweeter than most other citrus notes and present in Eau De Lacoste L.12.12 Pour Elle ‘Sparkling’) blackberry (also present in Sparkling - no prizes for guessing which is my favourite from the collection!) and jasmine. It’s worth making a mental note when you discover a specific perfume you love, what the different notes are. That way you know what to look out for when shopping for new scents.

Do your research
There is so much to choose from now when it comes to fragrance, it is often much easier to do some research online before shopping to find out if there are any specific scents you might like. Websites like base notes and fragrancia are great for this as they provide a breakdown of the notes in each scent, along with extensive consumer reviews and recommendations to similar scents you might like based on your current perfume collection.

Bottle size
It might sound like an obvious one, but if you’re travelling with a fragrance in your hand luggage, make sure you invest in a plane-friendly size (under 100ml) Most scents are 100ml or under, but watch out for extra large sizes.
The new Eau De Lacoste L.12.12 ‘Pour Elle’ collection consists of three fragrances: Sparkling (pink), Elegant (white) and Natural (green). They are all perfect for summer, and each have distinctly different characters. If you’re on the hunt for a new summer scent I would really recommend trying them yourself! You can find them online at Boots here.

  27. I got the green one before my holiday recently. LOVE the smell but sad it doesn't last long. Perhaps because it's an eu de toilette. Really hoping they bring out a more long lasting version of this.
