I've never really 'gotten' the whole BB Cream hype. I've tried a few over the past year or so and I have to say I haven't tried a single one that's impressed me. It's not the concept I'm opposed to. By all accounts anything that claims to be a tinted moisturiser (with better coverage), offer proper UV protection, and be good for your skin should be a winner in my books, but for some reason they all just feel like a greasy mess to me!
I went to a No.7 preview the other day and low and behold, they are also jumping on the BB Cream band-wagon! I
was really pleased to see that unlike a lot of other brands, they have actually tried to account for different skin types, rather than sticking to a 'one type fits all' product (It's still 'one shade fits all' though, don't even get me started on that!). The three variants are for normal/oily skin, normal/dry skin and dry to very dry skin.
Seeing as I get dry skin this time of year, I opted for the Dry/Very Dry variety to try out. And I have to say I found it to be equally as disappointing as all the other BB's I've tried before. The texture is slightly greasy and thick. The shade is a little on the grey side unless you like the Corpse Bride look, it doesn't provide any more coverage than a
very average tinted moisturiser, and it doesn't feel nice on the skin (again, slightly greasy!)
I love the fact that they've included 5 star UVA sun protection, but for me, the product just doesn't deliver. What's more, it's going to be £15... A little on the steep side I think!
The No.7 BB creams are due in stores on January 25th 2012, but I'd advise you to save your pennies and wait for their upcoming Spring collection designed by the lovely Lisa Eldridge... hint, hint... It's fab!

I have to agree with you on BB creams. I have sensitive, acne-prone, combination skin. Very complicated! Have tried several others before but ended up giving a boo. I got congested skin after usage, that what made me stop using those.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I really like how it makes my skin naturally dewy-looking without using highlighers on my face which tends to cake up on certain part of my face.
overall, I would prefer for a foundation at the moment but definitely will give a try on the misha bb cream when my skin started to clear up.
That's a shame is isn't up to much. I was really disappointed with the Garnier BB Cream, so I definitely won't be buying No7's version! xx

I don't understand how something can give you coverage, yet one shade fits all?!?
Perhaps the version for Oily skin will be less greasy?

Somehow it feels like BB cream is more formulated for asian skin. I find BB creams to eventually oxidize though. I have the Missha in No. 23 and it dries like a powder for me and I have oily/combination skin.

ReplyDeleteI've tried out Garnier's BB cream and it literally did NOTHING for my skin except for making it extra greasy. Plus, I feel like it doesn't deliver any coverage (unlike a decent tinted moisturizer). So unfortunately I have to say that I probably will never like BB creams ;)

I think that all of the new BB creams coming out over here are a bit of a joke... none of them really have the same properties as the real Asian ones so I'm not sure why they are sticking "BB Cream" on the label instead of "Tinted Moisturiser".

I think BB creams are more for summer time. For winter I'm sticking to regular foundation because I think it's better to have something between my skin and the drying wind that's a bit stronger (opposed to light texture of tinted moisturizer and similar products). Personally I haven't tried bb creams because reviews are bad and don't want to break out.

Fleur, you really need to try the Erborian BB cream. You can get it on lookfantastic.com or at Harvey Nichols (I think!). It's a true BB cream, so quite thick, but definitely NOT greasy. It's amazing and I can't be without it. All these mock BB creams that are coming out are nothing compared to my beloved Erborian. I have one or two samples lying around, let me know if you want me to send you one.

I recently reviewed the Skin 79 BB Cream on my blog and it works a dream! I have tried out in stores the BB Creams from 17, Garnier etc. and they don't really compare to the Korean BB Cream. It seems like the are cheap imitations of BB Creams for the western market to try and cash in on the hype.

I think BB creams are much better suited for in the summer. I don't mind them but i have to admit i'm not quite sure what all the hype is about, give me a proper foundation any day!

I love the Garnier BB Miracle Skin Perfector... It's not too expensive and although it's slightly 'greasy' it feels really good on your skin and if you don't like the dewy look or feel it doesn't provide enough coverage you can dust the tiniest bit of powder foundation over the T-Zone and the powder sticks to the BB and looks perfect. I've actually stopped wearing normal foundation now because I love this so much. And the smell is lush.

Yeah it took me awhile to "get" BB cream. The Korean ones were way too ashy for my NC25 skin but I found Japanese ones which are made with yellow undertoned types in mind. I love Hada Labo, Ettusias, Coffret D'Or, Evangelist...I do agree that if a BB cream doesn't suit your skin type or colouring, it would just suck but I think that's the draw of BBs...there are so many different types on the market so there's got to be one just for everyone ;-) I find the Clinique BB cream to be quite lovely...And that is supposed to suit most skin types.

ReplyDeleteUnless you have perfect skin, like FLAWLESS, but very dry skin I think BB skin will suit you. For those with a few imperfections and any other skin type, it just doesn't work.

ReplyDeleteI don't like the Ganier BB cream either,I tried a free sample of it and it left my face very shiny.I used the light shade and it was quite orange.I also wouldn't describe it as a balm as it was quite runny.

i like the idea of them but the shade ranges completely put me off, they are fine if you have a "normal" skin tone but i am really pale and find it hard enough to find foundation light enough let alone bb creams :S

I use Garnier's Miracle Skin Perfector.. I had read mixed reviews but I wanted to try it anyway as I was looking for a tinted moisturiser to slim down my make up routine on an up coming holiday..
ReplyDeleteI do find the formulation a little oily looking which I rectify by setting it with Maybelline's Dream Matte Powder..
Overall I like the product, for me the shade is spot on and the coverage is good! I was just trialling it for use on holiday but I now reach for it over my foundation!
I definitely think I'm going to try this one. I held off buying the Garnier one because of the mixed reviews. ALthough I'm slightly worried about the lack of shades. xx

i dont trust any BB Creams that are made/developed by western markets. but Korean's BB creams are the best! especially Skin79's and Holika Holika's and I currently have my eyes on Tony Moly's BB cream

ReplyDeleteI really like it :) the Gsrnier is utter crap in comparison! 17 have also brought one out which I was utter surprised to see in my mega tiny local Boots. I swatched it on my hand it seemed pretty good but my skin is pretty fair so I wasn't sure about it as only 2 shades are available.
Thanks for the review...it is definitely very helpful to know about products before you start using them,I prefer the foundation and the cream to be separate but there are many lotions and creams today which come with the facility of foundation.I also like to go nude make up to save the skin from chemicals at times.organic foundation
