Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Pumpkin, Vanilla. I'm a complete sucker for anything that smells like festive baked goods so as you'd expect, I have tried a fair few Christmas candles in my time.
Here are my top three for the festive season.
Number one is the daddy of all Christmas candles. It's big, it's red and it has Santa on the front...
Yankee Candle's 'Christmas Eve' will get you in the festive mood in no time. With sugared plum, candied fruits and a dash of 'warm hearth' (whatever that is meant to smell like!?) this will fill your whole house with it's delicious scent in a few minutes. Make sure you buy the large size though, I find the smaller (or even medium) jars have hardly any scent payoff compared to the big ones. They have about 110-150 hours burn time too, so expect this to last you all season! (RRP £18.99 for the large jar, available from Clinton Cards. You can get them a little cheaper online)
Second up is my all time favourite autumnal candle from Slatkin & Co. 'Leaves' is a ridiculous name but it smells like winter embodied.
Cinnamon, mulled cider, mandarin and red apple combine to create the most heavenly scent. Everyone asks what this is when I burn it in my kitchen. It's meant to be one of their autumn candles I think, but it takes me all through winter and beyond. It has the strongest scent payoff I've ever experienced from a candle. I simply love it, which is why it's ever so frustrating that it's not available in the UK. And mine just ran out. I'm going to be stocking up on my next visit to the US! ($19.50 for the large size, available from Bath & Body Works in store and online)
Last but not least, for those of you who prefer a more sophisticated looking candle, The White Company's Signature Candle in 'Winter' is also divine.
This one is more obviously 'Christmas' to me. It has more of a strong scent of clove combined with cinnamon and dried orange. It's more expensive for less product, at £20 but if you're looking for a gift, this is a great choice! (£20 in stores and online)
Another candle that deserves an honourable mention in this post is Yankee Candle's 'Winter Wonderland'.
If you aren't such a fan of the spicy, cinnamon-based scents and prefer to go down the fresh/minty/pine route, then this is also lovely. It's white too, so a little more subtle than some of Yankee's other Christmas options. (RRP £18.99 for the large jar, available from Clinton Cards. You can get them a little cheaper online)
I hope I will be able to buy first one "Christmas eve" here in Slovenia. :-) We have some shops selling them, but I wonder if they're getting Christmas candles to. :-)
ReplyDeletep.s. I love Christmas. The way it smells, the way you can decorate everything and mostly the way it makes you feel! :-)
Hi Fleur,
ReplyDeleteYou can buy some Slatkin & Co and Bath & Body Works products from www.bathandbodyshop.co.uk an independent company who import from the US. I order from them quite a bit and the postage is reasonable (within Europe only) and the lady who runs it is super nice and they're based in Coventry. It's pretty popular so there may be times when things you want are out of stock but they have a facebook page too:https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Bath-And-Body-Shop/191688774230523 and they update there when they get stock replenished or new stock comes in and they recently just made a deal with EOS to sell their lipbalms :)
Karen
I might have to purchase my first ever Yankee candle! Definitely fancy Christmas eve, the colour makes it doubly festive! :)
ReplyDeleteYankee candel christmas cookie is mine for xmas for all year round its baby powder! Have you tried getting them on qvc? They are much cheaper and they do great deals
ReplyDeleteMy favourite candle to burn at the moment is Slatkin & Co "Cranberry Woods" fragranced with cranberry, rich blackcurrant and raspberry delicately layered with notes of cinnamon bark, cedarwood and warm amber.
ReplyDeleteI also like Slatkin & Co "Winter Night", fir tree, warm cypress and clove bud blend perfectly with cedar and a touch of incense.
and;
Slatkin & Co "Winter Garland, Cranberry champagne, blood orange and red berry mixed with the essence of evergreen moss, white cedar and toasted clove.
I'm going to check out a couple of those Yankees you mention I'm a fan of the Fresh Cut Roses and Midnight Jasmine candles and also the Slatkin & Co Leaves I've been wanting Leaves for a while.

I really want to try the Yankee christmas candles never tried them before, I love candles at christmas time too! The christmas eve one sounds lovely :) x
ReplyDeleteI so want to try a Yankee candle, but they're so expensive where I live! If you think £18.99 is a lot to pay, try paying £29!! I think it's outrageous and I refuse to spend that much on a candle! :(
ReplyDeleteI love the Yankee Candles, I love the Christmas Eve one- too me it's just the smell of christmas in a jar! xx
ReplyDeleteCrabtree and Evelyn's Noel is Christmas in a nutshell. It's been the official holiday scent of my family since probably the early 1990's when I was little and now it's one I use in my home. It's fantastic! Slatkin and Co.'s Winter and Yankee's White Christmas are also amazing.
ReplyDeleteLeaves is already discontinued for the season :(

ReplyDeletethose candles look and hopefully smells good
ReplyDeleteI adore candles in the winter, Christmas smells are the best. Primark have started doing rip offs of the Yankee candle jars, but they come in more universal scents like Vanilla and Berry, I think they are like £2ish!
ReplyDeleteI love candles for the holidays!! They're an instant Christmas-mood catalyst!!

The Winter candle is hands down my favourite. I used to work for them and it always reminds me of good times and Xmas more then any other fragrance. I have it out already with the room spray. I wish they'd bring back their Verbier fragrance which was a love/hate smell (fresh smelling pine cones but quite smokey and crisp) because I adored that for this time of year as it was a bit different. Plus the quality of the White Company's stuff is worth every penny. I've had hit and miss with Yankee. Love love love their Wedding candle though for any time of year.
ReplyDeleteoh, Fleur! how this makes me dream of christmas time hahaha! My favourite is Yankee's Christmas Cookie, i was burning a bit of it today (cheeky me keeping it over a year) and i love it so! appaz its a dupe of Frosted Cupcake from Slatkin & Co! i deffs will be trying all of these!
ReplyDeleteperdi x
Hey Fleur! Do you think the Christmas Eve one really has a bit of fire place scent to it? The Dutch reseller promises it and I looove the scent of burning wood in the winter, haha. Definitely buying some if it does!
ReplyDeleteLove Yankee candles! I really want a big North Pole candle (tried it in a tart and loved it) but it's US only :-(
ReplyDeleteWith all the raves online about the Leaves candle I'm so desperate to try it! I can't find it anywhere online though so think I'll have to sadly pass it by (for now...)
ReplyDeleteI did manage to smell the Yankee Christmas Eve candle in Debenhams the other day though and almost died! Yum!

ReplyDeleteHey Fleur,
ReplyDeleteI just thought I'd share 2 candles I got from bath and body works just yesterday! It was 2 for $20 for I was pretty happy. It was the Slatkin & Co. company candle. And I got Frosted Cranberry and this Cranberry Pear Bellini. They smell sooo good. The Frosted Cranberry is sweet & smells amazing. You got me into this candle phase! haha. I smelled a lot of candles yesterday at the store but I didn't really like the spicy scents....that pine cone one was..yuck. I saw this tiny mini japanese cherry blossom candle though. I wouldn't have paid $9.50 though.
