I'm normally more of a 'volume' girl, so I wasn't convinced that I'd love this one quite as much as my Colossal Volum' or The Falsies but I gave it a whirl over the weekend and was generally impressed.
It's a fibre mascara that claims to add up to 4mm length to your lashes. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with fibre mascaras. Some I love, some I find just a pain to work with (usually high street options fall into this category!)
The packaging is a rather unusual curved silver tube. I don't love it but I think it's nice they're taking a step back from the bulkier tubes that house The Falsies and Colossal. The brush is a little on the long side for easy application, I found it a little fiddly to apply, especially on the bottom lashes.
I found this mascara adds significant length to the lashes, but also adds a boost of volume too. The results are really pretty and surprisingly clump-free, however I think something is lacking here... for me personally, this mascara just isn't quite dramatic enough. It's a nice mascara but it's not groundbreaking.
The staying power is good. I find the one downfall of Maybelline mascaras is that they tend to smudge on the bottom lashes after a few hours, but I find Illegal Lengths isn't as prone to this as the Falsies.
You can pick up Illegal Lengths now, priced at £8.49.
I have the same problem with smudging on the bottom lashes! Great review, can't wait to try this on myself! Oh and amazing eyes!

I need a new mascara, this seems ok but like you say, nothing groundbreaking! Shame :( xx
ReplyDeletei still haven't found anything that beats ysl for me, but thanks for the review! xx

I've been loving Maybellines Great Lash lots of lashes it does not smudge on the lower lash!

I have almost no eyelashes on bottom, so I never bother to apply mascara there.
ReplyDeleteI'm also in love with YSL.

Thanks for the review Fleur. I am quite interested to try out this mascara as I've been looking for something new :)

Not really a huge fan of fibre mascara's. I think they tend to get really clumpy when they start to dry out a bit!

Really want to try this

are there any mascaras you would recommend that are particularly good as they don't smudge on the bottome lashes- I always have a problem with this!
ReplyDeleteCool! It's great that they don't smudge. That problem was constant with my old Falsies mascara. I think they've reformulated that one in the past year though as well?
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried a fibre mascara yet, I recently hauled Lash Catcher after I read your review (and saw how STELLAR your lashes looked in a Feb video of yours!).
I'm more of a dramatic volume girl too, I think that this would be awesome layered with another mascara! Will deffo pick one up in the coming months xx
I'm currently loving Boots 17 peep show (I think that's the name) mascara, and I'm loving it, didn't expect it to be so great for the price. I was wondering what this mascara might be like, good review but I think I'll stick with my Peep Show for a now :)

ReplyDeleteStunning lashes.

I think this looks quite good, although I am bad for getting mascara smudges underneath my bottom lashes :/ I might look a bit further in to this as I am in need of a new mascara.

So glad I read this review, I was just off to have a look at this mascara! But I'm a big fan of the doll eyed/dramatic lashes look so I think I might pass! Though who knows what result you could get if you combined 2 mascaras?

Every mascara I buy, even the high end ones, smudge on my bottom lashes. I do love Maybelline mascaras though, especially for volume. I ran out omy Falsies months ago and still haven't repurchased it. xoxox

I felt the same, it's a good mascara but not amazing. L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes will always be my favourite :)

I have this too and I really enjoy it. Strange, the packaging is different in the US than the UK one.

I've been wanting this mascara for a while because I'm more of a girl who looks for length. A bit disappointed that you weren't a fan, but I'll probably still give it a go myself. Great review!
ReplyDeleteI'm always more of a volume mascara girl too but I might need to try this out, looks pretty good.
