I have been somewhat obsessed with dying my
hair bright pink and purple since the age of 16, when I had stripes of each
running through my shoulder length blonde hair, and had to tuck it behind my
ears when I was at school to avoid the teachers spotting it…
Since then it’s seen a few ups and downs in
popularity, but I’ve honestly never seen quite as many people with different
colours in their hair as in the last six months...
And it’s never been easier to
play with colour. I became a little obsessed with Kevin Murphy’s Colour Bugs
about 18 months ago, and the arrival of Anastasia’s Hyper Colour Brow &
Hair Powders has tickled my interest again. They come in 5 different colours. I'm especially happy they included a gorgeous teal (I would have perhaps liked to have seen a bright yellow in place of the acid green... but each to their own!)
You’ve all most likely seen the trends and
results before… but here my top 10 tips when using these dusty little pots of
neon-goodness:
- Wear dark clothing. No matter which brand I use, you always get a little fallout with these products, even after application. These versions are much better than the Colour Bugs in my opinion, but you still don’t want to be wearing white.
- Use leave in conditioner underneath the colour. Just a little bit. It’ll help the colour stick to your hair and not your forehead/clothes/fingers.
- Set the colour with Hairspray
- If you want streaks, always add the colour underneath your top layer of hair. This helps to blend it in better.
- Style your hair first. After putting the colour in you get a very heavy, powdered-texture which is hard to brush through and style. Brushing will also remove some of the colour. (And it will stick to your hairbrush, never good!)
- Use a clarifiying shampoo to remove it. Two washes should get it all out with no problem at all.
- Don’t worry if you have darker hair… These work on any hair colour!
- Cover your surfaces. I would recommend applying these in the bathroom… away from walls, carpet or curtains. They can be a little messy!
- Wash your hair before bedtime! They shouldn’t stain your pillows, but the colour will transfer.
- Do it with a friend. I always find applying colour into someone else’s hair, and having someone apply it in to yours is often better, as you can see it from different angles and get a better idea of the finished result.
So there you have it guys… Happy rainbow
hair!
What do you guys think of these neon hair
powders? Is it a look you’d wear?
You can pick up Anastasia's Brow & Hair Powders now from CultBeauty.co.uk, priced at £10 each.
*I don't own the images of other people's hair. I pulled these from Tumblr - If anyone requires photo credit, please let me know and I will be happy to include it*
Love the look of rainbow hair! Wish my hair was lighter so I could do it.

I've always wanted purple stripes in my air but i never had the courage to use permanent color These seem like a good choice and you can wash it at the end of the day :D
ReplyDeletetry stargazer hair dyes! they're brilliantly bright but they aren't permanent. i have used the purple one and it lasted around 3 weeks, but i wash my hair everyday so it may last longer on people who are lucky enough to have hair that doesn't need washing as frequently! :)
DeleteSeconding the Stargazer recommendation - they're good value for money, are well pigmented, and last weeks :)
DeleteWow they look amazing!!

I recently tried the L'Oreal pastel wash out hair dyes, I went for pink panther and dyed the ends of my light blonde hair with it... came out super cool but washed out on first wash not 3-5 washes like the box said!

I so love the look of brightly coloured hair! Though I've always been too much of a wuss to try it (or rather, my parents never let me, and now I work in a setting where it wouldn't be warmly accepted). But temporary powder colour is a great solution! I've seen and been tempted by the Kevin Murphy colour bugs, but the Anastasia version sounds great! Thanks for the tips :)

ReplyDeleteI dyed my hair turquoise last summer and it looked absolutely amazing. I love bright hair colour and it's surprisingly easy to wear! The only thing I hate about it is of how long it took to come out, I still have some faded-green streaks left over now! Do they come out easily without long-term staining?

Wow, these look awesome! I was actually looking to put some bright colors in my hair for the summer. Since I want mine to last a month or two, I might end up getting a dye. These are quite enticing though! :)
ReplyDeletei bought some coloured artist chalk off ebay for my mum which was recommended to me by someone. £14.99 for 24 chalks and they seem like the work really well :) mums got very short brown hair n went to an 80s show with 5 different colours at the front of her hair. defo a good dupe x
ReplyDeleteI've always loved coloring my hair! I'm fairly sure I've had nearly every color in my lengths at one point or another (from green and blue, to all over red, to ombre!) Though I've always used semi-permanent color whenever I opted for brighter colors. I've never actually tried hair chalk, though now I think I may have to!
