I'm totally in love with this new 'Fade In' palette from Smashbox's 'Fade to Black' collection.
While I adore my Urban Decay Naked and Naked 2 palettes, I have used them to death over the past year or so, so this makes a new but very welcome option in my neutral eye wardrobe...
It contains four mattes and three beautiful shimmers. As you'll notice in the pictures, the darker shades show up slightly darker than they appear in the pan, but are all beautiful.
The formula and pigmentation of these are all really nice. I would note that the black with a tiny bit of shimmer in it is slightly less pigmented than the others, and took a little work to get the finish shown above. The addition of a gorgeous, shimmery olive green also makes this palette stand out from many others. I've got green/hazel eyes so love this kind of colour.
Apart from that, the formulas are lovely, they blend well and the staying power is really nice.
The packaging is stunning too and I think this is going to be my go-to-palette for the next few months. There is also another colour-way in this palette which contains more plummy, purple shades. They are already available in Sephora in the USA, priced at $42, but if you're UK based they will be available online and on counters at the end of August, priced at £32.
Value for money isn't quite on a par with the Urban Decay options (if you don't already own a Naked palette, I would definitely recommend getting one over this, but if you are stuck in a neutral-eye-rut with your Naked palettes and are looking for something new in a similar vein, this is my recommendation.
This palette looks nice, but i wish it had more 'lighter' colors in it.

could you take a picture of your eyes after using it please?xx
ReplyDelete£32?!??! I think i will stick to naked a) because they have way more shades for around the same price and b) naked palettes are more neutral and wearable. This would be a nice nightime going out palette though!

Much prefer the Naked palettes over this one, the colours are far too harsh.

I feel like crying! This would have been the *perfect* palette for my wedding last October. I had a dreadful time trying to find the right colours. Absolutely beautiful, and definitely going on my wishlist for the future (for that read payday!). Really appreciate your product review.

Wow Fleur, that does look really good! I've been considering getting Naked for a while now, but it always seemed overrated and overpriced to me - so I'm definitely going to go have a look at this! Thank you,

I can't believe how dark they come out compared to in the pan, I'm glad I saw this before it came out because I couldn't find a popular use for the darker colours. If you could, I'd be highly grateful for you to take a look at my blog.

ReplyDeletehttp://www.devotwitch.blogspot.co.uk/
I actually really like the look of this palette. The lighter shades look wearable day-to-night and the black with shimmer looks like a nice change - usually the palettes I pick up the black is matte and heavily pigmented... which I don't like, as I rarely use powder eyeshadow for eyeliner purposes - just for smokey eyes. I think it's definitely worth a swatch comparison though next time I go in boots. :)

I still need to get myself the Naked palette, but this one is gorgeous too. I love smashbox makeup, so I think it would be a great option!

I really need a new palette like this, but I'm not totally convinced I'd ever wear eyeshadow. Does it add much to the make up look? Maybe I'll invest and find out! I think I'm more likely to go for the Naked Palette though!

Ooh looks so pretty. Would make a lovely travel palette and I have used a lot of the colours in the naked palette to death but not all of them, whereas I think I would use every one in this palette. Love that it's got a few mattes as well-I always like matte colours in my crease x
ReplyDeletePretty palette.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try. I too have used urban decay palettes to death. ;)
