Lush Review: Star Light, Star Bright

I only ever really shop in Lush at Christmas time... their festive limited editions lure me in, and my most recent trip resulted in a huge haul of heavily scented goodies that will keep me stocked up well into the new year. If you want to see everything I bought, then check out the video below...
Last night I tried out one of their new additions to the Christmas line-up: the Star Light, Star Bright bath melt. Now, I'm totally obsessed with stars so this was a must-try for me, despite the light citrus scent (I normally prefer the richer, spicy scents) I love their bath melts as they tend to be a bit richer and more luxurious than the bath ballistics or bubble bars...

First thing to note with this, is that it's super messy! The silver shimmer comes off at the lightest touch, so be careful (especially when picking it up in the shop!)

Once it hits the water, the shimmer quickly disperses and reveals the inner base of cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut, lime, ginger and lavender oils. As this melts away, a blue/green core emerges and turns your bath water a shimmering blue.

While I'm not a huge fan of citrus scents, I found this quite uplifting and pleasant. It left my skin feeling super soft and moisturised (definitely no need for body lotion!) Even the next day I noticed how nice my skin felt.

The one downside to this is that it left a rather unappealing blue/grey scum around my bath. Lush bath products usually leave some kind of residue but this is definitely one of the less appealing ones!

Overall, this product was really nice, but I definitely still prefer my Melting Snowman when it comes to bath melts (who, coincidently is over £1 cheaper at £2.25, compared to this at £3.30). A nice one-off treat, or a lovely gift, but I don't think I'll be purchasing this again.

  7. This one doesn't look as appealing as the other christmas lush bath bombs when in the water.
Never tried a melt, but will have to next time I am in lush!

  11. Used this last night (actually half of it--I wanted to try and get two baths out of it) and I did like it, but I agree with you--the biggest downside is the mess it leaves in the tub. And I also agree with you on loving the snowman bath melt--he's my favorite!

  13. This looks so lovely. I always find with Lush glitter bath products that I ended up with my body covered in glitter once I get out the bath! Oh well, who doesn't like glitter!

  17. Seeing all these reviews of lush products makes me feel like I should get out of my comfort zone and make my way into the lush shop... I always find the scent so... intense. I wouldn't want to smell my bathroom like a lush shop, but if it's only one scent that should be fine, right? Did the glitter 'melt' or were you scrubbing the glitter off of your tub for a week?

  18. So you just throw it to the water and look how it melts in the water? I have a few bath ballistics and I actually don't know, how to use them :D So this is the right way to use them? :)
And back to the Star Light, Star Bright.. I don't like citrus scents, I usually connect them with the smell of toilet cleaner :D I rather like sweet fruity and floral scents :)

  23. I love LUSH as a company. I'm not a fan of glittery things, especially in my bath, but the colour changing looks great.

I've just blogged about my favourite pamper obsession... the face mask! More importantly, the 4 that REALLY work (one for each skin woe). Check it out at http://sophs-choices.blogspot.co.uk

  24. I just bought this the other day and was lowkey hoping for a more silver in the bath. I haven't tried it yet but glad it left your skin nice and soft. I guess i'm not looking forward to the murky water but as long as it smells nice and makes my skin feel soft it isn't too bad then. Thanks for sharing!

  26. You're only supposed to use PART of the bath melt! That's probably why it left such a ring in your bath tub. The consultant at my Lush counter said that you should get 3-4 baths out of this bath melt.

  35. Lush is lovely! I saw your haul and I agree with your love for Cinders! The one I bought did cackle!
I also prefer spicier scents and not a huge fan for citrus, especially for bubble baths as normally they're taken at night and that's when you don't want to feel alert, but sleepy!

I wrote a body products post today too: http://berrybloomxo.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/bath-body-products-haul.html

A good tip to avoid residue on the sides of your bath is to put a little bit of shower gel or shampoo in your bath water. It also good when you use highly coloured bath bombs.
