Chanel Nail Varnish: Overrated or Pure Luxury?

I only own one Chanel ‘Le Vernis’ (or nail varnish in less chic terms). It was a kind gift from a friend. I had never taken the plunge and splashed out 16 (and a half!) of my own hard-earned pounds for a Chanel nail varnish before, as I honestly couldn’t believe it would be worth the money. So when I was adorning my talons with this pricey polish this afternoon, I decided to write a little blog post about it.

The shade I own isn’t one of those fancy-pants ‘on trend’ craze-inducing colours like Jade, Particuliere or Rouge Noir. It’s the cute-ly name ‘Orange Fizz’. And it’s not even really orange, I’d describe it as a ‘true coral’ and it is very pretty, especially for summertime.

So down to the point…

The formulation is quite thin, but it’s nice to apply and well pigmented. While it definitely needs two coats for the full effect, it dries nicely, shines like it’s been polished to perfection and doesn't chip for a good four days if you're not a manual labourer! But I do hear you ask – can it really be worth all that money? The equivalent of SIX (totally fabulous) Barry M nail paints?!

I’m surprised by my conclusion, but I actually think it’s worth every penny. The packaging is beautiful, the finish is beautiful and the feeling of parisienne chic you get from applying it to your nails is not something that can be matched by any other designer or ‘affordable’ brand.

I’m not going to go out and buy the whole collection of course, but I do think one or two of these in any girls collection is enough to make her feel fabulous. They make a glamourous gift to give or receive and they have my thumbs up – price tag and all!

You can purchase Chanel Nail Varnishes, along with the rest of the Chanel cosmetics line at most department stores.

  4. that colour is pretty..but I think I'll stick to drugstore varnishes for now..I hardly ever finish a bottle and it would be terrible to let £16.50 dry up on my shelf :P xxx

  6. Looks like a really pretty colour :)
But I don't know if I could part with £16 for a nail varnish, lol.

  7. So glad you've taken the plunge and started your blog, you have a refeshingly natural writing style.

I don't think I could personaly part with £16.50 for a nail varnish, but thats probably due to me not being able to wear them to often. I'll stick to my Barry M's for now :) However, Orange Fizz is a lovely colour, I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of it over summer :) xx

  8. I love the Chanel varnishes, ever since I bought my first one about 2-3 years ago. I work in a restaurant, and even there my nails will stay good for a couple of days.

I mostly buy them Duty Free, since Norway is way to expensive when it comes to high-end brands. And still I have to pay £16.3..

  9. I purchased my first Chanel polish a few weeks ago, in the shade "Rose Baby" for my wedding this summer, I tested it last week and it lasted 6 days without chipping! It is a beautiful shade too, I am very impressed :)

  12. I have been wanting Particuliere and it is always sold out at my local Chanel counter. If there is a shade that is only Chanel, then go for it. But if it can be duped for less, than that's a beautiful thing.

  13. Wow, I'm surprised - I saw that colour and it is gorgeous by the way, but I have had nothing but trouble with Chanel nail polishes and vowed never to buy any again! Every time I have tried them they have chipped within a day, totally rubbish and not worth the money in my opinion. I was so annoyed that I actually threw mine away! There are much better brands out there for polish.x

  14. Oh, wow! This is the only Chanel Le Vernis I own as well! I ashamedly splurged on it while studying abroad in Paris (though we can get them here in the U.S., I was drawn in by that same feeling of Parisienne chic). I absolutely love this shade and especially this formulation. After trying it, I remember naively telling a friend, "I will never waste my money on a drugstore polish again! I will save up and buy 1 Chanel rather than 4 less-than-ideals." But lo' and behold, I have bought zero Chanels since then, but about 10 drugstore polishes. Empty words, and a half empty bottle of Orange Fizz... (and just fyi, I LOVE your blog!)
