Struggling with Skin Care?

I'm the first to admit I'm downright fickle when it comes to skin care. Even if I love a product dearly and shout from the hills about it's fabulousness, chances are when it's finished I'll be incapable of repurchasing another bottle without eyeing up or trying out another product promising even more wonderful results in between. On the plus side, this means I play guinea pig for you all! Having tried and tested such a wide range of skin care goodies, I've complied a little guide of my top picks.

(In order of use, not merit!)

1. Simple Eye Make Up Remover
One of the most affordable make up removers on the market. No mess, no fuss, no scent. This removes eye make up quickly and doesn't sting my sensitive eyes. £3.19 from Boots

2. Witch Face Wipes
No matter how much I try to stick to a strict skin care routine, there is always a late night or early morning when you just need a face wipe to hand, and no matter many times I shop around for different face wipes, I always come back to these. Surprisingly gentle on the skin and eyes, the bright coloured packaging and 'skin clearing' promise would usually warm me off using these for all over make up removal, but they do the job better than any others and have a lovely, fresh scent. £3.99 from Boots

3. Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
The most popular cleanser of 'the moment', no matter how much I try to like another cleanser this is undeniably the best. It is also one of the only cleansers that claims to work for all skin types, and really does! £13 from John Lewis

4. Muslin Cloths
For those of you who haven't tried the Liz Earle cleanser, or who have and aren't big fans, incorporating a muslin cloth into your skin care routine anyway can work wonderfully. It gives that extra bit of (gentle!) exfoliation to keep the skin looking clear and beautiful without over-stripping it. £4.40 from Boots
5. Melvita Hydrastim
Organic French brand Melvita's 'Hero Product' Hydrastim is a light moisturing gel that can be used alone as I like to do in the summer months, or applied underneath your normal moisturiser to boost your skin's moisture levels when it's feeling a little dehydrated (as mine currently is!) £20 from Melvita

6. Caudalie VinoPerfect Day Moisturiser with SPF 15
Another French organic brand, Caudalie's Vinoperfect line tackles dark spots and acne scarring. Complete with SPF 15 this moisturiser is gentle, effective and smells delicious! £30.20 (Saving £5.30!) from FeelUnique.com

7. Embryolisse 24 Hour Miracle Cream
If your skin is a little on the dry side or very sensitive, it may be best to reach for make up artist favourite, Embryolisse. This thick, rich cream leaves your skin feeling baby soft and plumped with a nice, natural and rosy glow. Hard to get hold of in the UK, best to buy online.

8. Khiels Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
An eye cream that feels like it's actually doing something. Keihls Creamy Eye Treatment is thick, luxurious and perfect for a first-time eye cream for those who are only just starting to delve into the realm of anti-ageing products. £26 from Selfridges

9. Decleor Aromessence Neroli Essential Serum
When your skin needs that little extra someting. I apply this blend of essential oil before moisturising for an added boost. It's more of an oil than a typical serum so I wouldn't recommend this for oilier skins, but if you have dry or mature skin, this is a fabulous treat for your complexion! £35.70 (Saving £6.30!) from FeelUnique.com

10. Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream SPF 50
Last but by no means least, another cult classic that deserves the hype. I pull this out when all else fails! The best remedy for super dry skin, chapped lips, irritated skin, rashes, allergic reactions and especially fabulous for flying. £20.70 (Saving £2.30!) from FeelUnique.com

  1. I had a disaster with my Simple Eye Makeup remover a couple of weeks ago. I've been using it for years and one day just had a reaction to it. Cue me going to work with big, red, bloodshot eyes hehe Optrex did the job but now I'm on the hunt for something that is gentle and won't break the bank :) Love the blog :)

  5. Woo! I'm so happy to see Melvita Hydrastim on the list! I just purchased it yesterday and am already loving it :) Works for my oily skin even - guess I'm really dehydrated and therefore skin is trying to compensate by producing oil. Must say it feels fantastic on the skin and really balancing and natural :) Kinda tempted by the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment, cuz you and Ingrid both rave about it xxx

  8. I have to say that lately I'm really impressed with Johnssons skin care range, especially the day moisturiser which has completely sorted out the dry skin on my nose, something which other moisturisers had yet to do. It's really gentle and works amazingly well, I highly recommend it :)

  9. Have you tried Eve Lom cleanser? Also goes with a muslim cloth. Wonder whether you prefer Liz Earle or whether you haven't tried Eve Lom yet. I haven't tried Liz Earle yet. It's cheaper then Eve Lom, so may give it a go.

  11. Decleor! Ah I went to a spa and had a facial, and they used their products on me! I really want to try the moisturiser still, the hydra flora anti pollution one I think! The therapist recommended that to me when I asked about moisturisers. Although still have a few to get through... including one from Shu Uemura! So should probably use them first eeeek! I do need a toner at the moment as my clinique one spilt all over my suitcase, ahhhh :( , do you recommend any? xo
