NEW L'Oreal Rouge Caresse Lipstick Review
I find some weeks I just obsess over one type of beauty product. Sometimes it's nail polish, maybe foundation, but this week has been the week of the lip product... I just can't seem to get enough! So excuse me if I post about lip products every other day, it's just one of those weeks!
If you watch my YouTube channel, you might have seen that I picked up one of L'Oreal's New Rouge Caresse lipsticks the other day. I hadn't heard much about them at all so assume they must have just hit the shelves in the past few weeks. They appear to be (and are being fairly widely hailed as) L'Oreal's answer to the much-anticipated Revlon Lip butters.
First off for the packaging. I really love it and for the price I think it's great quality. It looks and feels more expensive than it is. The formula is much less like a balm or a butter than the Revlon alternatives. It's more like a lightweight gel. The product it most reminds me of is actually Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks (one of my personal high end favourties!).
The colour range is pretty phenomenal. Although there are only 10 shades, I like every single one. I found it very hard to chose which colour to pick up. (They are currently on 3 for 2 in Superdrug and Boots. I almost bought three different shades but managed to resist until I'd tried my first one... just in case!)
The colour I settled on after 10 minutes of frantic hand-swatching was Aphrodite Scarlet. Despite the name, it's actually more of a pink than a red, with a beautiful shimmer (which is what sold it to me!) It feels light and moisturising on the lips and actually has a good colour payoff. The colour is sheer but still pigmented (if that makes sense!) Although it's not an opaque product, the pigment really shows up on the lips and gives them a lovely shine.
They have a subtle, but pleasant scent and although they don't last an age, I'll most definitely be picking up more of these on my next trip to Superdrug. Fuchsia and Tempting Lilac are next on my list!
As for how they compare to the Revlon Lip Butters? Personally I find these to be a very different formula. They are much lighter, and while the pigment packs quite a punch, I find a lot of the Revlon shades to be much more opaque and creamy, like a lipstick. I personally can't say which is better as I think I like them both equally for different reasons, but I can say that these most certainly give the lip butters a run for their money!
L'Oreal Rouge Caresse Lipsticks are available now from Superdrug and Boots, priced at £7.99 each (but currently 3 for 2 YEY!) (P.S: I'm not sure if these are available worldwide, but there is a product called the 'Color Riche Ralm' available in the US that looks very similar - If anyone can clarify if these are the same/replacement product I would be very grateful!)
I love these new lipsticks so much, I'd love to share one with a lucky reader. If you'd like to win your favourite shade, all you need to do is:
1. Follow me on Twitter
2. Tweet me telling me what your favourite shade is, along with your email address

Oooh, I'd love to win Fuchsia, I'm sometimes not sure if bright colors suit me, but with the formula being quite sheer I think it'd be much more forgiving. I follow you on twitter already, GFC: jayde xo, email: jer92@hotmail.co.uk

I have one of the Color Riche Balms. I bought it, thinking that it would be like the Revlon Lip Butters. It was a tad disappointing. I bought the color Rose Elixir, which is one of the lighter shades. It wasn't very pigmented -- it felt more like really, really nice lip balm and had a slight tint. You can't tell that I have much color on my lips when I wear it. It smells great, though! I had considered purchasing one of the darker colors to test the pigmentation, but it just didn't feel worth my $6.99 when I know that the Revlon Lip Butters are so good.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing article, makes me really want to try out the product.
ReplyDeleteI know I really shouldn't write this but it would mean a lot if I could get a few people to read my blog

These look so good. The colour range is really impressive. Think I might be tempted into buying some of these AND the Revlon lip butters.
ReplyDeleteI saw these the other day and very nearly got some! I resisted but I might just have to go back now. I hadn't heard anything about these until a few days ago though, they seem to have just sprung up out of nowhere! Lovely colour :)

These look interesting, although I try to avoid L'oreal for personal reasons. Makes it hard when they bring out good products though! xx
ReplyDeleteI really like lipsticks that are moisturizing because I've tried so many that become dry as the day goes on. From what you've said this one is good so I might have to try it
ReplyDeletei swatched these today and they're soo nice! love the packaging as well :)

They don't really look like they would be compared to the colour riche balms simply because those are so sheer, although I do like them better than the lip butters they're just not as pigmented. The lip butters are overrated in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteWhat I have been loving of Loreal's is their 6hr infallible lip gloss. This looks interesting but haven't seen them here in the states.

Hi, I quite like the red colour but at the moment I'm too afraid to try bright colours! I would love to try this out and see whether this bright colour suits my lips and overall skin tone. My favourite shade from these are Fashionista Pink! My email is samiya_shakir@hotmail.co.uk :)
ReplyDeleteHave just done a blog post on this too! I bought this one (06 - Aphrodite Scarlet) but agree like you said, its much more pink than red! I also got 202 - Implusive Fuschia and 03 - Lovely Rose. I love them all. Feel free to check out my post for swatches etc! xCx
