Nailed: Models Own Indian Ocean

I had to hit a few Boots stores before I managed to find a bottle of Indian Ocean in stock. It's one of three new polishes to be released in to their Beetlejuice line (two of which I have bought - more on the other one later in the week!)
It's a gorgeous blue (presumably inspired by the indian ocean!) with a lilac shimmer. Although most of the Beetlejuice shades are duo chromes, this is really more of a shimmer in my opinion.

It is disappointingly sheer on its own, and requires 4 coats for full opacity, I tried this out with a few different colours underneath it and think it's one of those polishes that can transform any plain colour.
Left-right: 1 coat alone, over Barry M Navy, over Barry M Berry Ice Cream, 4 coats alone

My favourite colour combination was with Barry M's Berry Ice Cream. One coat of each and it gave the most gorgeous effect. I'm not sure if it's the Barry M, the Models Own, or combination of both, but the wear time of this was amazing... 5 days with minimal chips! (Normally I struggle to get past 3!)

On a side note... this is the first time I've tried Models Own polishes and they STINK! Honestly the worst smelling polishes I've come across! However, if you can get over the smell... I'm loving this shade for spring and summer!

What do you think?

Models Own polishes are available from larger Boots stores, priced at £5 each (currently 3 for 2 though… yey!)

  1. Wow this color is gorgeous, especially over Barry M Navy!

  2. The reason why Models Own stink is because they still contain the Big 3 - DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde/Formaldehyde Resin. The selling point of their 'Pro' range at £8 is that they are Big-3-Free while most other companies manage to sell Big-3-Free polishes at just £2.99 for example. So apply in a well ventilated area! Indian Ocean is gorgeous though, try it layered over Barry M Mint Green - it looks amazing! xx

  10. I love this! I never would have thought of those combinations, but I love them both! I'm not sure how I stand on the smell front, but if it makes my nails look that good, then I suppose it's worth it. Great blog!

  12. I love Models Own polishes, they are the only ones I have that apply evenly, dry (and harden) super fast and last for days without chipping! They really are my go-to polish if I need to do my nails in a few minutes xx

  16. It looks so summery fresh, I like it! Don't like it when you wear it alone but with the mixture with other nail polish, looks pretty cool.
Great blog, by the way ;)

  25. I know, they smell like those cheap polishes people used to give out at birthday parties when I was about 8! The colours are lovely and they last for ages too! I have a post on one of the Beetlejuice polishes too :) want to buy another but might wait and see what the other two you bought look like!

  43. i was about to get this online because i couldnt get it in store and i saw you had reviewed it!! haha thanks :L but i reckon it's the beetle juice ones which stink.. i have about 7 or 8 of their polishes and none of them have an offensive smell, all of mine are a mix of shimmer, cream and glitter but i have no beetle juice ones. i also really recommend trying more because i have to say, they are my absolute favourite polishes and they have lasted longer than my barry m, opi and mac ones. they also have a fab range of colours and are really affordable! =) x

  49. I think it looks really nice of Barry M Navy. It's more dramatic. But too bad about the scent. I just had the unfortunate experience of that just now and had to remove polish from my finger nails because the scent wouldn't dissipate and was making me nauseous.
