Review: Jimmy Choo Flash!

When the original Jimmy Choo fragrance was launched a couple of years back, it caused quite a stir in the fragrance world. While it was a hit with many of my fellow bloggers and friends, I didn't fall in love with the scent myself, though I did love the bottle.
Well, their second scent has arrived, in the form of 'Flash': A less sweet, more floral concoction. The bottle is designed to emulate paparazzi flashbulbs, and the box is equally as glitzy. I love the box, but the bottle itself is not as nicely made as I expected, or as good quality as the first Jimmy Choo fragrance.
The scent itself is an effevescent floral, with top notes of strawberry, pink pepper and tangerine. It fools you in to thinking it will be fresher and fruitier than it really is. After it dries down, the heart notes of tuberose, jasmine and white lily come through, making it a little too sickly for my liking.

Woody base notes make it a little more sophisticated, but for me, the strong floral heart is just too much. When it comes to staying power (like the first Jimmy Choo fragrance) this is great, but  in my case I'd prefer if it wasn't!
I've never been a fan of lily, so that might be where the problem is for me personally. Overall I was left dissapointed with this, just like the first time around.
Obviously perfume is immensely personal, and everyone likes different scents, so if you like strong floral fragrances (akin to Marc Jacobs Daisy) then this is worth a look, but if you're a gormand, sweet or sophisticated scent kind-of girl, I'm not sure you'll like this!

Jimmy Choo Flash will be available exclusively from Debenhams (UK) from 14th January, then nationwide from the 28th. It comes in 30ml, 60ml and 100ml Eau de Parfum priced at £36, £46 and £62 respectively.

  1. It's probably wrong that I want this just because it would look beautiful with my other perfumes! Such a nice bottle!

It actually sounds like it might be my kinda thing, I'll try to give it a sniff next time I'm near a perfume counter.

  3. Wow.. you really are descriptive when it comes to perfumes - and I do love sweet perfumes so this one sounds lovely to me.
The price is quite a bit for what you are getting which is a bit of a shame - but can be expected because it is jimmy choo!
    Anyway lovely post fleur! :)

  7. It's funny because I love and regularly wear Marc Jacobs Daisy but I'm not a fan of the first Jimmy Choo perfume. However, I hadn't even heard about this one until this post so I'll have to smell it next time I'm in town!

  20. It's strange, I usually associate heavy scents with very sultry notes. But who knew a floral sweet thing like this could be so sweet, yet so heavy/longlasting. When I think floral, I think fresh :)

  21. That bottle is so cute! :D I'm looking forward to sniffing this...it sounds like something I'd like :D

Maybe they'll release a 3rd version soon? And you'll end up liking that one? Third time's the charm right? ;)

  22. The bottle is definitely beautiful! This is a great post, very informative! I think I may just like this fragrance as I am drawn to floral scents....will definitely have to be on the lookout for it at the perfume counter. Thanks for the post Fleur!

  26. Ah well the bottle does look nice for what it is supposed to represent, but I guess if the scent is not for you then that is fine! I personally find myself to like sweet scents like taylor swirt, britney spears of vera wang, so I guess this one would not really suit me! You have taken really lovely pictures of the product though :)

  31. Always liked more of a sweet scent myself, and I'm definitely not a fan of the bottle. Just seems the tiniest bit gaudy.

  37. Thank you for the review. I really liked the first one and bought it for my Mum for Christmas and she loved it so if they are quite contrasting fragrances, I doubt I will like this one but I will test it when it comes out.
I would appreciate if you look at my blog, its brand new and I've done a tag and a look back over my 2012. I would love for feedback whether good or bad. I have decided I want to blog more, about everything I like, whether it's what I've been up to, reviews of make up, perfume, theatre shows, tags, basically all sorts.
    Thank you

  43. What a gorgeous bottle, I love the way it mimics the paparazzi lightbulbs!

I'm more a fan of musky scents than super sweet scents, but I might give this one a sniff in Debenhams!

  44. I have the original Jimmy Choo and it's lasted me for so long because I don't need to use too much of it, it sounds like this would be the same. I'm not a massive fan of the bottle but the box is nice! I'll have to hunt it out in Boots but perfumes that dramatically change their scent over time aren't really for me so I don't think I'll be buying!

  45. I received a sample today, and I don't usually buy perfumes like this but I must admit, this one takes my fancy, I think it's quite a unique smell but very nice and feminine. I could understand if this was bought by older people more than the young however, it does remind me of something my nan would wear, yet bizarrely I find myself putting the date in my calendar to get a big bottle!!!

  46. Love watching you. Wanted to alert you that YT has changed the way comments and likes work, so that people with the greatest privacy settings (like me) can no longer "like" or leave comments. What a shame. This also means that we can't enter any of the giveaways. Wish there were some other way to give feedback. My privacy is very important to me. Best to you and Mike!! -- Elizabeth

  51. Does this remind you of Elizabeth Arden's Pretty Hot perfume? Not sure if you've smelled that though, I love that perfume to death. Anyway, if it has a similar kind of smell (does that even makes sense, maybe not), then I'll probably check it out. Hehe although I'm not sure if I can find anything Jimmy Choo anywhere near me.

  56. I loved this when I tried it the other day but it could be 'cos I loved the bottle.
Aesthetics is everything for me which is prob why I didn't care for the original Jimmy Choo- pretty much a flanker scent for V&R's Flowerbomb (made by same people, too).
Love the photos, the box is way cute, too!
