Rimmel have been on a serious roll for the past year or so, releasing some fabulous products, so I was excited when these landed on my desk this week. They are the latest addition to Rimmel's Scandaleyes collection. The Eye Shadow Paints.
Liquid-creme eyeshadows in a tube with a sponge applicator, these glide on with a slight cooling effect (not dissimilar to the Dior ones) The pigmentation is very high...
...the formula is creamy and blends nicely but it dries very quickly, giving you less than a minute to work with it.
The staying power is really good. They don't budge or smudge when rubbed, but are easily removed with soap/cleanser and warm water. They claim to stay waterproof for up to eight hours, so are a great option for the summer time.
L-R: Golden Bronze, Mercury Silver, Manganese Purple, Rich Russet, Slate Grey |
Overall, these are another lovely product from Rimmel. There is however, one aspect that is an utter disappointment to me: the shade selection. As with their shadow pencil line, there is only one shade that I would chose to buy and wear regularly (Rich Russet). I'm not sure why, but Rimmel seem to chose some of the least flattering or wearable shades out there. Had they added a more subtle gilt shade instead of the brassy gold, and a delicate silver-champagne instead of the bright silver, I think the collection would have been a total winner. The deep grey is nice for a smokey eye, but don't even get me started on the purple...
If, however, bright is you thing... these may be right up your street. I would definitely recommend that every checks out Rich Russet, as it's a really beautiful colour.
These will be available from 10th July in the UK, priced at £4.99 each.
These are already available on Superdrug, online, I saw them yesterday :)

When blended are they the same shades as above? Because manganese purple and rich russet look the wrong way round?

Completely agree with the colours! That purple reminds me of something from my teen years in the early 00's . A complete no no!
ReplyDeleteThe colours look really vibrant and pretty but not too wearbale! x
ReplyDeleteWow, these look amazing! I reckon Mercury Silver or Rich Russet would make a nice base for a smokey eye as well, can't wait to get my hands on them!

Rich russet looks absolutely beautiful when blended out!
ReplyDeleteI would probably get Golden Bronze and Rich Russet. I think they would work together okay for an eye look. Using Golden Bronze as the primary colour and Rich Russet as the crease colour. But only if you move quickly I guess since they set very fast. I do like both colours individually as well though!
ReplyDeleteBitten Glam
They look lovely when blended! I would have preferred a more natural champagne shade though x
ReplyDeleteAmy | http://amysbeautyjournal.blogspot.co.uk/
They look really good. But I don't think I would wear the colours!
ReplyDeletehttp://itsallthingsme.blogspot.co.uk/
Oh I completely agree about the shade selection! I think I would only opt for Golden Bronze and Rich Russet. I guess the greys and purples would appeal to the more adventurous souls out there but personally, they're not for me. X
ReplyDeleteI don't understand their colour chose, if the formula is good surely you should pick better colours so they appeal to more people. Even time I go into Boot the gold colour of the pencil is always sold out, when they bring out a new range they should see that that is the most poplar colour because I really want to try them but as you said the only colour that applies to me is Rich Russet.
ReplyDeleteGreat review as well :)

ReplyDeletesparklesandwich.blogspot.com
I wonder how long it will take Rimmel to release these in the States. They look amazing but I'm with you, I don't know what's up with Rimmel's color range because they have some of the most unwearable shades.
ReplyDeleteLaura
www.lauraneuzeth.com
I agree, their color selections for eyes are never that amazing/ wearable but they always kill it for lip products in my opinion
ReplyDeletemercuteify.blogspot.com
I hope they eventually release these in the US. Maybe they'll add some more colors in by then?? I agree that I wish the gold color wasn't so brassy, and the silver would be prettier with a more champagne tone, but the Rich Russet looks like a great color for everyday. The purple could work if you use a tiny dab and blend it in the crease or the outer corner of the eye, but you'd have to play with it a bit to see what works...
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing! I agree with you in terms of the color range though, this could had have become one of the best eye products of the season...hopefully they bring more out!!
ReplyDeleteceemab.blogspot.co.uk
Rich Russet is BEAUTIFUL! I saw someone else talking about these yesterday and it looked so lovely on their eyes.

I thought exactly the same as you, I would wear none of these except Rich Russet. Such as shame if the formulas are good! I think they look pretty cheap in the packaging as well, I would look at these in store and just think 'pah they're what I would buy when I was 10' if that makes sense?

Was really excited to see this post in my subscription box. It was nice to see what they look like blended out, so thanks for doing that. You raise a really good point with the colour selection though. It would be fun to have one of these in ones collection for the odd time you want to do something different... but it would be so much better if there were colours you could use regularly. Even though the price is nice, is it worth it if you never use it?

These look right up my alley :D I hope that these come to France soon. The downside of living in Paris is that our "drugstore products" aren't up to date, so we always get the "new" products late... But I'm going to London soon so I can stock up with makeup!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, your review was really detailed and I learnt quite a bit about these products. Thanks! In my opinion, these colours seem to be more suited to autumn or winter. These definitely are the sort of colours I would wear!

I think Golden Bronze would look beautiful on blue eyes!!
ReplyDeletehttp://sodarlingzara.blogspot.co.uk/
I've just tried all of them out, and they are actually all more wearable than you might think if you work with them right. I have ice blue eyes, and golden bronze looks really pretty teamed with a dark crease, the silver looks nice with a dark grey crease for a metalic night look and say with slate grey. And actually the plum is nice with something like MAC Beauty Marked!

The slate grey looks a bit mucky when blended. The other colors look really nice. I am going to keep a lookout for those. I love how they give a nice smooth finish. Yet I think the slate grey would be lovely if they made it more pigmented.
