Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Paints - First Look & Swatches!

Rimmel have been on a serious roll for the past year or so, releasing some fabulous products, so I was excited when these landed on my desk this week. They are the latest addition to Rimmel's Scandaleyes collection. The Eye Shadow Paints.
L-R: Slate Grey, Rich Russet, Manganese Purple, Mercury Silver, Golden Bronze
Liquid-creme eyeshadows in a tube with a sponge applicator, these glide on with a slight cooling effect (not dissimilar to the Dior ones) The pigmentation is very high...

...the formula is creamy and blends nicely but it dries very quickly, giving you less than a minute to work with it.

The staying power is really good. They don't budge or smudge when rubbed, but are easily removed with soap/cleanser and warm water. They claim to stay waterproof for up to eight hours, so are a great option for the summer time.

L-R: Golden Bronze, Mercury Silver, Manganese Purple, Rich Russet, Slate Grey

When blended
Overall, these are another lovely product from Rimmel. There is however, one aspect that is an utter disappointment to me: the shade selection. As with their shadow pencil line, there is only one shade that I would chose to buy and wear regularly (Rich Russet). I'm not sure why, but Rimmel seem to chose some of the least flattering or wearable shades out there. Had they added a more subtle gilt shade instead of the brassy gold, and a delicate silver-champagne instead of the bright silver, I think the collection would have been a total winner. The deep grey is nice for a smokey eye, but don't even get me started on the purple...

If, however, bright is you thing... these may be right up your street. I would definitely recommend that every checks out Rich Russet, as it's a really beautiful colour.

These will be available from 10th July in the UK, priced at £4.99 each.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't understand their colour chose, if the formula is good surely you should pick better colours so they appeal to more people. Even time I go into Boot the gold colour of the pencil is always sold out, when they bring out a new range they should see that that is the most poplar colour because I really want to try them but as you said the only colour that applies to me is Rich Russet.

  69. I hope they eventually release these in the US. Maybe they'll add some more colors in by then?? I agree that I wish the gold color wasn't so brassy, and the silver would be prettier with a more champagne tone, but the Rich Russet looks like a great color for everyday. The purple could work if you use a tiny dab and blend it in the crease or the outer corner of the eye, but you'd have to play with it a bit to see what works...

  97. Was really excited to see this post in my subscription box. It was nice to see what they look like blended out, so thanks for doing that. You raise a really good point with the colour selection though. It would be fun to have one of these in ones collection for the odd time you want to do something different... but it would be so much better if there were colours you could use regularly. Even though the price is nice, is it worth it if you never use it?
