Life in Miniature

Is anyone else slightly obsessed with travel sized beauty products? Maybe I'm alone here, but I often get more excited about the minis than I do the 'real' thing. When I go away, it's almost like a challenge to see how much I can fit in to my clear plastic carry-on-approved baggie. I love miniaturising my beauty regime, something about it is strangely satisfying.

I'm currently in Berlin for 24 hours (you'll hear more about that on the blog tomorrow, but it's exciting so keep an eye out!) and thought I'd share with you which products managed to secure a spot in my suitcase...

Skin
I'm currently road testing a couple of products from Su-Man, the east-meets-west skincare offering from celebrity facialist of the same name. I got a discovery kit from CultBeauty.com and the texture of both the cleanser and serum are wonderful. I'm especially loving the serum, it's unique texture sits beautifully under makeup. I also brought along my Boots Botanics eye cream. My current favourite budget skincare find, along with the Palmer's Cocoa Butter lip balm (the original and the best!) which tastes like chocolate, has SPF 15 and makes your lips feel lovely.

Hair
Hair care minis are probably my most favourite thing, so it's always a struggle to decide which ones to take away with me. As you can tell by the state of my mini Moroccan Oil bottle, that always secures a spot. I'm also loving my Oribe Dry Texturising Spray, and a new discovery, the Charles Worthington dry shampoo too (which I use more for volume and styling rather than dry shampoo - Charles Worthington is on fire at the moment, so many great products!)

Makeup
When travelling I always try and bring as many powder products as I possibly can to save having to check a bag in. I brought my new Benefit 'Big Easy' base with me, which I'm loving. It's not quite foundation, not quite BB cream, with a subtle matte finish that lasts. I also packed my (new-ish) Kevyn Aucoin candlelight highlighter, both because it's brilliant and because it works wonderfully on the eyes as well as the cheeks. My new Hourglass Ambient Blush in Mood Exposure was my blush of choice for the trip. I really like this but I'm still reserving judgement on whether or not it fully deserves the hype it's currently getting online. I am utterly obsessed with my Sephora oil-slick brushes, so of course they came with me. They were limited edition at Christmas time, but I'm hoping they make them an annual thing because I can't. stop. staring. at them!

    This.

I battle with the clear bag every time we fly cramming all kinds in.. then hit up a pharmacy to buy lots of things I can't get at home as soon as we land!

  2. I love buying mini products. They just look so cute! My clear airport bag is always over flowing. I will be taking my baby girl on holiday with us for the first time the next time I fly and I'm really not sure how I will manage to take milk for her and beauty essentials! It's going to be a challenge!

    1. Milk and other liquid babyfood (and liquid medicine) doesn't count, you are allowed to bring that even if the container is bigger than 100 ml :) You might have to taste it when passing throug security (my cousin and I got yelled at for pouring cough syrup in bottles under 100 ml and not keeping it in the original bottle, which we luckily brought with us. Back in 2008 we didn't know about all the rules :P).
So you wont have any less room for your beauty essentials, and besides, I think she miiiiight be entitled to her own plastic bag :P Not sure about the last one, but babies need essentials as well under travel ;)

  4. Love travel minis! Someone gave me Evolu's travel tower for Christmas and I love taking it on my long haul flights. It's great to have 6 products (from eye cream to night cream, and hand cream) in a neat little stack (10ml each). xo Rita

  14. I'm obsessed with miniatures! If I can buy a full size or a miniature I always opt for the miniature! It might be more expensive in the long run, but they're cute and handy and always a great way to give a product a real go!

  33. This is hilarious! I'm obsessed with mini stuff as well. I think because it's just so stinkin' cute. They are really great to have around if you travel lots and I have noticed lately more and more companies are getting on the mini bandwagon! It used to be a bit hard to find good quality product in miniature size, but those worries are no more! I think all the heavy rules on what can travel on an airplane without checking a bag helped companies expand their mini products!

  49. Miniatures are such a good idea when you're off on your travels! They're also pretty useful for when you're staying out friends houses and with things like dry shampoo and little miniature perfumes, they're great to throw in your handbag and take around with you in case you feel you need a spritz! Lovely post :')

  75. I love those mini beauty items! BTW I use a lot of extra virgin coconut oil specially when I'm at vacation, so that I purchased a new one recently called Viva Labs Coconut Oil. Interestingly, this coconut oil can be used as skin moisturizer, Hair oil and for cooking and baking though I kept it in my bathroom and I use it by mixing with my regular body lotion. It turned my skin into completely what I wished for. I'm so happy with this 4 in 1 coconut oil :)
