I've been meaning to write a review of Marc Jacobs' latest fragrance release 'Dot' for a few weeks now. A sample bottle arrived on my doorstep over two weeks ago, and I have to admit it's taken me that time just to work out exactly what I think about the scent.
As soon as I saw images of the bottle late last year I knew it was something I wanted to love. As usual with Marc Jacob's fragrances, the bottle is eye-catchingly cute. I couldn't quite work out if it was based on a butterfly or a ladybird (or perhaps a mutant-hybrid of the two!) but it's actually inspired by Marc's love of polka dots. Either way, I think the bottle is instantly loveable.
The scent itself is much less of an instant hit. I liked it on first spray, with fruity top notes of dragon fruit and red berries, but as it dries down it becomes a lot more floral than I expected, with Jasmine and Orange Blossom becoming dominant.
As with Marc Jacobs' other scents, after a while I found it becomes a little sickly. Thinking back to previous releases, I felt the same about Lola and Daisy, but absolutely loved 'Eau Lola' and 'Daisy Eau So Fresh' when they were released. I'm holding out high hopes that they bring out a similar version of Dot because, for me, it's a nice scent, but just a little too floral for my taste. It's an Eau de Parfum so the staying power is good. It lasts a good 4 hours on me.
If you are a fan of Lola and Daisy, or of floral scents in general, I think you'll love this. If like me, you have quite a limited taste when it comes to florals, and prefer the 'fresh' versions... it might be a little OTT for you.

Had a cheeky spritz of this when I saw it in Debenhams the other day. I've already got the 'Oh Lola' which I really love but was pleasantly surprised by this one. I prefer floral scents to musky ones. Haha love the butterfly-ladybird hybrid idea! xxx

I thought the same on first smell of this. Still can't make my mind up. I have Lola but its not one of my faves I just find Marc Jacobs perfumes a tad on the sickly side. Desperate to get my hand on the new Guerlain perfume though!

ReplyDeletei dont know if its just me or at first it smells a lot like calpol! i work on the no7 and fragrance counter at boots and loads of people have sprayed this and not liked it. i think its such a shame that marc jacobs fragrances are lovely but this one seemed to be the rotten apple so to speak xx

I went to Myer yesterday just so I could get a sniff at this scent. Verdict? The bottle's adorable! The scent however, not the greatest.
