Here's what Urban Decay have to say about it:
"Our completely weightless formula blurs imperfections to deliver a flawless finish that looks professionally retouched and feels invisible."
I've given it a thorough road test over the past few days and here's my verdict:
1. The Packaging: While the packaging looks lovely, it's made entirely of plastic. This isn't necessarily a bad thing (it definitely makes it lighter!) but it does feel a little less 'luxurious' than a glass bottle. You get 30ml or 1fl oz. The convenient pump dispenses the perfect amount for my whole face in just one pump.
3. The Shade Selection: It comes in an impressive 18 shades to suit all skin tones. Those with a .5 are neutral/cool tones, and whole numbers are warmer shades. The shade I tried was 4.5.
2. The Formula: It has a traditional liquid foundation consistency. (It has been compared to the YSL Teint Touche Eclat, but having compared them side by side, the YSL is slightly more of a gel texture, has more of a light-reflecting property and a much lower level of coverage). The product has a very strong, powdery scent which I'm not a fan of. While this goes away after a few minutes, it is a little off-putting initially. It is oil free and paraben free which is always nice.
3. Application: It provides medium-high coverage. While one layer would provide the perfect coverage for the daytime, it is very build-able (so perfect if you like a natural look for the day, and more coverage for the evening). Urban Decay have also launched a special brush to apply the foundation with. The 'Optical Blurring' brush is a dense, rounded, synthetic brush that allows you to buff the foundation right into the skin. I personally love this type of brush and it gave a lovely finish when applying the foundation with it.
4. The Finish: It provides a very natural finish. It's not matte, but certainly not dewy. As the name suggests, it does actually look like skin!
5. Wear Time: It didn't look perfect at the end of an 8 hour day, but pretty close to it. Combined with a good primer and a setting spray, this easily lasts all day on my skin.
6. Price: I find Urban Decay's pricing a little hard to get my head around. Some of their products (like the naked palettes at £32 for 12 shades) are fantastic value for money, while others seem to be hugely over-inflated (The custom eyeshadow palette at £84 for 6 shades). This foundation is £27, 27 Euros or $38. I think that is reasonable, but I think it could have been a smidge lower (it's only £1 cheaper than the YSL, which feels like a much more luxurious product)
Overall: I really like this foundation. I'm enjoying using it for everyday makeup and although I don't think it will replace my Shiseido and Dior options at the moment, it is very nice indeed. I don't 100% agree with Urban Decay about it 'feeling invisible', as you can certainly tell you're wearing it, but it does leave you looking a little 'retouched'! Definitely worth a look if you're on the market for a new foundation.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation is available now.
this look really nice i might try it ive been looking for a new foundation! thanks fleur! <3
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this foundation ! Thanks for this post !

£27 and a plastic package isn't a fantastic combination for a higher end foundation! But it does look gorgeous on you x
ReplyDeleteI'm currently hosting a GIVEAWAY for a pair of galaxy print leggings on my blog if you're interested!

Do you think it would be good for quite oily skin? I suffer with a very very oily t-zone and as such I tend to treat my whole face as oily, this looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually on the market for a new foundation, but for £27 it seems like the YSL one might be winning!xxx

Thanks for this post! I've been waiting for someone I read to review this :) Personally, I think I'll stick to drugstore foundations, but I have to admit I was intrigued about this line. Thanks again! :)

I wish there was a Sephora in Finland so I could ask for a sample and then purchase it if it's good. Interested in trying it! =)
ReplyDeleteI'm much rather pay the extra pound for the YSL and get something just that little more luxurious. I might be a package snob, but that amount of money for something that looks like it could be bought from Rimmel, no thank you!

I have never disliked any Urban Decay product I have tried and would almost go as far as saying they are my favorite beauty brand so very excited about this foundation but at that price it might have to resign to my wish list for a while. The brush also looks like it would be brill for foundation application! However, I wish Urban decay was more readily available on the high street. x

This looks lovely, although I prefer a much more dewy finish! x

This looks so nice although I'm surprised the packaging is plastic, think I may have to check it out next time I'm at a Urban Decay counter :D x
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of this foundation however in the photo you can definatly see you are wearing it compared to when you normally wear foundation Fleur its like a second skin but better which is good as my skin is particularly bad at the moment however £27 is quite pricy so I'm not sure I would want to buy it without testing it first I may have to see if I can get a sample first that brush looks amazing though
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I'm having trouble deciding between this one and the Benefit Oxygen Wow~!

A shame they don't sell UD in Norway.. Have to pay taxes for everything over £20.. If I can find it on a website where they lower the value or return the taxes I had to pay I will most definitely try this one out :)
ReplyDeletehttp://sugarmochi.blogspot.com
looks great! I love the packaging and the brush looks amazing x
ReplyDeletedoesn't look as nice on your skin as the Dior one you reviewed...
ReplyDeletewww.picturenoergaard.blogspot.com
I always love your reviews! :) Could you possibly do a comparison with this brush and your flat top brushes like the Jemma Kidd one please? :) I'd be interested to hear!
ReplyDeleteHow much was the brush?
ReplyDeleteI'm so in love with the brush, do you think it would work with other brand of foundation or bb cream?

Looks lovely on your Fleur :) I'm really looking forward to this foundation even though i already have too many lol xx
ReplyDeleteYay, I was really hoping for a review on this one! :)

It looks flawless on you!
ReplyDeletehttp://laurenlovesmakeupxoxo.blogspot.co.uk
I love this product! I bought it immediately on the day I saw it displayed at sephora. It's the best match for my skin tone ive ever tried, much better than mufe hd in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteAcupofteashirt.Blogspot.com
for the price i dont think it looks like its rly worth it and as a brand i think they have much better products that are worth and investment, wont be picking this up any time soon :/
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a really nice product but I think a few pounds cheaper would have been more appropriate. I can't believe how much the personalised eyeshadow palette costs!
ReplyDeletewww.northoflondonblog.com
that looks so pretty and gives a really natural finish..LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteplease check out my beauty and fashion blog :) :)
If you were to choose would you choose this one or the YSL one? because I'm in the market for a new one as my current one is close to running out may as well have a go at a new one :-)

I need a new foundation-now I'm even more stuck but I think I'll this a try:) xx
ReplyDeletewww.hiboufashionbeauty.blogspot.com
I so wanted to get this just for the packaging alone but think I'll pay the extra £1and try the YSL one!
ReplyDeletehttp://cosmetic-queen-bee.blogspot.co.uk/
Wow, this definitely sounds promising- thanks for the review! I've been looking for a foundation that looks natural yet offers decent coverage, so this might fit the bill! I'll definitely get a sample next time I'm at Sephora :)
ReplyDeletewww.vibrantbeautyblog.blogspot.com
This looks great! The coverage looks really nice.
ReplyDeleteI think I would prefer the YSL one, the reviews seem much better!

This foundation looks gorgeous on you! I really want to try the YSL foundation though!

It does look lovely on you, though the pricing is a little much for me, for UD, I'm slowly going off all their products I own.
ReplyDeleteI'd much rather pay £1 and buy YSL. The brush though looks great.

I tried this at the UD counter and I was honestly really surprised at the price, it seem disproportoinatley high compared to say the Naked Palettes
ReplyDeletehttp://theredoneblog.blogspot.co.uk/
As soon as I saw this advertised I wanted to try it but I must say the price has put me off a little, but this review has made me think it maybe worth a try. xo
ReplyDeletei really want to try this, but since it's about the same price as the YSl foundation i'd much rather spend my money on YSL! how much is the brush?
ReplyDeletehttp://cloudsandcuticleoil.blogspot.co.uk/
xx
This sounds like an interesting foundation - I'm always looking for one with a natural finish (not too matte not too dewy) and I cannot seem to find a perfect match for my skin. Maybe this one is just what I'm after!

I'm trying to decide whether to try this foundation or the chanel vitalumiere aqua. Which would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteis this brush worth purchasing? love the review and planning on checking out this foundation soon :)
ReplyDeleteI think you can get better value for money brushes that work in a similar way (sigma and bdellium have good ones) :)
Deletethanks :)
DeleteI have wanted to try this foundation since it was launched the other week, thanks for the great review Fleur! xx

How would you compare it to the Vitalumiere Aqua. They both sound fairly similar in description but are they similar in wear and application?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Thanks for this review!! Very similar to my findings, i love it!! Its also the hydrating ingrediants, peptides, and antioxidants that i appreciate an make it a luxurious product. :)
ReplyDeleteWww.victoriousvice.wordpress.com
This looks like a great foundation. Especially appealing since it doesn't have a really dewy finish... I'm not a fan of looking too dewy. The price is a little expensive though. Maybe on pay day ;) xx
ReplyDeletejensbrightandbeautiful.blogspot.com
This sounds interesting but out of my price range. I'm tired of buying foundation when bloggers keep saying it has great coverage, but I'm not sure if this would hide my acne scars.
ReplyDeletelooks nice!
ReplyDeletelaurenlovesmakeupxoxo.blogspot.co.uk
I am glad you liked it, because I just ordered it ;) I ordered the color 4.5, and cross my fingers that it's a match.
ReplyDeletewww.apeekofmarislife.com
I can't decide which I want to try first this, teint touche eclat or Dior spray foundation. I want them all but I've already got a lot on the go :S may just buy all three and tell the hubby 2 were a free gift :P he believes me every time! X
ReplyDeleteI was actually thinking of getting this to wear for special occasions or nights out. It looks really nice on your skin. Also, the brush looks perfect for applying it. Only thing I don't like is the price of it all haha.
ReplyDeletelooks nice
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good foundation! I'm looking for a good foundation to use for nice occasions instead of constantly using my Garnier BB cream. xx
