I was so excited to hear about the release
of YSL’s Babydoll mascara. I’m a loyal, long term YSL mascara-lover and was
keen to see how the brand planned to improve on their already wonderful Effet
Faux Cils and Shocking mascaras.
Babydoll is housed in the same iconic gold
tube, with an added pink ‘Babydoll’ scrawl. The brush is a chunky rubber one,
with the head at a slight angle. Apparently it holds two patents and is a revolutionary mix of wide-set bristles intermixed with finer ones to achieve superior definition, but to be honest, the proof is in the pudding when it comes to mascara...
Application, as usual with these
super-volumising formulas, is a tiny bit messy if you like to ensure every single
lash gets a coating, but it's definitely a little more precise than my other YSL mascaras, as the wand is as smaller.
As for the results… I have to
admit I was a slightly disappointed at first try. It took me a couple of times to get to grips with it, but after about 3 uses I really love it. If pushed I would have to say I do prefer the original Effet Faux Cils and even more so the
Shocking version, as I personally love a slightly clumpier look to my lashes, but this does leave you with gorgeous, fluttery looking lashes.
I also think it might be my personal preference for traditional
mascara wands rather than rubber ones, so if you like rubber wands, and find the
other YSL mascaras too clumpy, then this is definitely the one for you. As you can see, the results are pretty stunning, and a little neater than the others.
You can pick up Babydoll now, priced at £24.50. They also have a few different colours as part of the
collection, along with some stunning liquid liners and a lip and nail colour to
match, so it’s worth taking a swing by your local YSL counter to take a peek if you're a fan of the brand.
What do you guys think? Do you like the look of the new Babydoll mascara, or prefer the more dramatic look of YSL's Shocking?
Think the mascara looks lovely, but you can get similar looks with cheaper drugstore mascaras! Would mean so much if you could check out my blog!xx

It looks amazing! I have to try it - I seen the ad for it, but sometimes the ad takes away from the actual product!

I think this looks gorgeous and classic and I love the packaging... I might have to pick this up! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe perks of being a hipster
Personally I don't like spending so much on mascaras as you have to replace them so often... But your eyelashes do look amazing! I think I'll be sticking to Maybelline The Falsies for now. One day I think I will be tempted by a higher brand though! Maybe when I'm not living as a student!
ReplyDeleteEmilia Grace / Beauty Blog
this looks really good, I've been wanting to try a high end mascara for awhile to compare it to my beloved Max Factor mascaras maybe this is the one! haha x
ReplyDeleteIt looks really good! I don't one to get one though because I find YSL mascaras very smudgy on my eyes :( I always get dark undereye circles because of it after only a few hours. Plus, the price tag is sky high.. I really like the packaging and how it looks on you though :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post!

Lovely! That gorgeous gold iconic packaging it simply divine too....i'll have to take a look at my local counter as I prefer the less messy options. Check out my blog: www.apricotsandamethysts.blogspot.co.uk Xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is a really useful blog post, I love trying new mascaras however I think this mascara is a bit out of my price range. Are there any cheaper mascaras which are like this, as it is a beautiful mascara and I really like it. Thank You So Much.
ReplyDeleteI've been dying to try the YSL Shocking Mascara, I just haven't had time to go pick it up!This one looks really nice though, might have to go check it out! :)
ReplyDeletewww.murdocktalks.blogspot.ca
WOW great blog! Please check out mine too :) http://jackelynhowell.blogspot.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteMight give this a try as I am SO not a fan of the Shocking mascara. Far too clumpy for me, makes my long but slightly sparse lashes clump and look like spider's legs- yuck! One question, is it as scented as the shocking mascara?
ReplyDeleteThis gives a similar effect to the Maybelline mega plush mascara.
ReplyDeleteheatherlenoi.blogspot.co.uk xx
I tend to really like the rubber wands- this looks right up my ally!

Adore the packaging and the ads for this mascara but like you I prefer a clumpier more voluminous look to my lashes! XO

I agree, I prefer my lashes a bit on the clumper side, but I love how this mascara separates and coats each lash

I've never ventured into the world of high-end mascaras, but I think I'm convinced to give YSL a go! It's great to see the actual results of the product as the ads aren't to be trusted - too many fake lashes invovled!
ReplyDeleteI actually love the way the new Babydoll mascara looks on you! It seems like it really separated the lashes, but it didn't seem to add too much volume.
ReplyDeleteYour lashes are beautiful on their own anyways!
This is such a pretty mascara!

I've been reluctant to try these bec of the price. if I find a deal on them I will def. pick one up though since it is exactly the kind of wand I like. your lashes look amazing here with it on which makes me really think I would love it. thanks for sharing a lovely review! xx. gigi. food and beauty blogger @ www.gigikkitchen.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Is this very natural looking? If not, what is the best for defined, clump free and lots of length?

Your eyelashes look amazing!! I've never tried a YSL mascara and they're a little out of my price range, but still, I can admire from afar :)

I used to have a YSL mascara. I have always thought that mascara is one of those products that you don't need to spend a lot on, there are so many great drugstore/high-street mascaras and I tend to always go back to Maybelline for my lash fix. The packaging is gorgeous on the YSL products though!

I wish I had longer lower lashes, do you recommend any good mascaras for short lashes?
ReplyDeleteThe packaging of this YSL one looks lovely but it does seem to separate the lashes slightly too well.

I prefer the look of the 'shocking' on you, but from a personal point of view, I think I like this one more! I found the Effet Faux Cils a little difficult to work with ;) x
ReplyDeleteIt looks really good on you! I really been loving Benefit's They're Real but I might try this once it runs out because I do like rubber brushes. Great review! xx Rena

I'm definitely a fan of the original Faux Cils! I usually opt for drugstore mascaras, but this one is tempting!

A mascara named after one of my favourite perfumes? So there...
ReplyDeleteBeauty Challenged
I tried the YSL Shocking mascara and the Lancome Star mascara and had bad experiences with both of them. I wont go into why I don't like them coz then we'll be here forever. In my opinion they are definitely not worth the hype or the huge price tag. Especially when you can get great results from most drugstore mascaras. Though this one looks interesting, and I have to say I want to try it, do they do samples of it???
ReplyDeleteI picked this up the other day as I wanted to treat myself as I love mascara.
ReplyDeleteI was worried at first as I had heard that YSL mascaras can be quite clumpy, which I absolutely hate. But I was happy to see it came with a rubber wand as I love precision in a brush!
Overall, I'm very impressed. Makes my already long eyelashes look ultra long and fluttery. Not to mention it smells amazing.
Your lashes look so pretty, looks fab on you :)

I would love to give this a try because it looks amazing! How quickly does it dries out? I hate it when really great mascaras dry out quickly :)
